That's crazy, I wonder what his deadlift is?

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone do more than my 225 power clean in real lIfe. I go to a gym of mostly casual (non?) lifters though.
It's not uncommon man, you walk into any good crossfit box and there will be a majority of average joes that C+J 225lbs for reps. These guys aren't competitive weightlifters either they are goin for time.

@romaleos would be the guy to ask....with the rise of crossfit came a resurgence in the Olympic lifts. I don't agree with the workout vs time aspect of the training but it without a doubt has brought these lifts to masses instead of just sport athletes and competitive lifters.

I hear Crossfit gyms are actually great places to train. Not for their workout of the day or whatever, but because they have great equipment and don't freak out over using chalk and going hard on your lifts.

Rates I've seen are astronomical because you are essentially getting access to the facility+equipment, coaching, and programming. Many don't have enough emphasis on strength training for my liking. I really dont care how long it takes you to do 30 C+Js if the weight is light and your form is awful....but the elite athletes that are competing professional are pretty amazing specimens.

The point remains if they get upset over a lil chalk and cussing where you train you may need to look into a new facility.

I've heard that about the price, too. The prize money at the Crossfit Games is no joke either.

Nah, my gym is pretty laid back, they have chalk and don't trip over being loud. The second they banned chalk would be when I found another place to train. I wouldn't be happy as it's the only gym in town and going elsewhere would be a long drive.

My girl has run quite a few 1/2 and full marathons so we are on chronotrack. 2016 she's set her sights on some of these cash purse obstacle races, and I'm along for the ride. It will be interesting to see how the other side lives....

"It will be awesome baby! It's only 12-14 miles but you climb ropes, cargo nets, mud crawl under barb wire!"
-how much do they pay you?
"Well no...its fun...you pay like $110-150 a person but you get a tshirt!"
-wtf. They have to pay me to do that shit.
"Well...there's a category where we can race for cash prizes and the winners advance"

-well baby why didnt ya say so

I don't know how a deadlift translates to a clean. Power lifters think they are the same but no way. It's not even apples and oranges, more like apples and orangutans.

300 plus power clean is legit. Most I see barely pull it off without the crazy chicken leg catch.

I've been grappling with the idea if it's practical to even teach an entire oly lift to an athlete who doesn't compete in Olympic lifting. Having to rapidly go from a concentric into an eccentric movement is rarely seen in most athletic patterns. Which I guess why most coaches stop at power clean because it's easier to drill and most transferable.

I believe otherwise but that is a debate for the Olympic Weightlifting thread. LOL

I always had an interest in olympic lifts, but the nearest gym to me that does that sort of thing is 20 miles away, so i settled for pl'ing at the house. I try to catch it whenever it's on the tube. Shane Hammond generated a little local interest around here.

Just wanted to add that my squat is better than my deadlift as well. Best squat 605x2. Think the best deadlift i have done is closer to 555-565, and that is with focusing/trying to improve my deadlift and basically cruise control on squat while i try to catch d/l up. I do think there are a few people who squat more than deadlift. Is it just form or could it be build/body make-up for everyone that is squatting more than d/l

There are a lot of people who's squats are better then their deadlift due to biomechanics or equipment used. I wish my squat was close to my deadlift that be sweet!

Biomechanics but also technique is also an issue. Hard to tell without seeing you lift in person or video analysis.

Do you oly or powerlifting squat? Do you sumo dead or conventional?

I hope you make a quick recovery. You should consider starting a log on here also, I'd love to see how someone at your level trains day to day.

Ditto ^^^^ log it up @Strength and Power be awesome to see how someone of your caliber trains

Thanks @Perrin Aybara I'm doing some low low weight work for my pressing, with higher reps, and.......I...HATE...IT. Just trying to increase the blood flow to the area. I am accustomed to dealing with injuries however. I seem to have the worst luck when it comes to warming up. Hell, I tore my hamstring during warm up pulls at a meet 3 years ago. I ended up dropping my opener by 100 pounds, and couldnt even get a good lift in. Basically did a one leg deadlift, but was unable to lock both knees out, only one, so I had to withdraw from competition.

As soon as I enter into my next training block, I'll be sure to post up a training log fellas. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Hopefully by the time I begin my next block of training I will have more free time so that I can keep it updated on a regular basis.

Oh no does he hate me? I got 0 likes from him :(

No kidding. We appreciate the likes, but needless to say, I was quite surprised to log in and see 56 notifications.

At least they were all likes and easy to scroll through one time during an ansomnia kinda night I answered as many questions as I possibly could over every section and welcomed a ton of new members... Went to sleep at 5am woke up 7am with 68 new replies quoting what I had said and I felt obligated to read it all.... Waste of a night and day!

Insomnia seems to be my middle name. It has become quite an issue for me over the past year. I agree, with only 2 hours of sleep, the entire day is shot. I suppose I should be thankful I am not that popular around here, and that they WERE all likes just as you said. Otherwise I would be doing the same, and wouldn't get ANY sleep.

Hey hey hey, youre popular to me. I would talk to you more if you didnt keep letting real life get in the way of whats really important...a steroid forum full of your lifting bros! Priorities man...:p

Just helping the bros out on the likes game. Thank my jail broken iPod.
Insomnia? Lay off the caffeine, make your bedroom quite cold and drink warm milk with honey right before you hit the sack. Hey, just a suggestion.

Im going back and forth week to week between squat and DL. So theyre just about even.

I'm a little jealous of you guys that make gains so easily on squats. I hit 555 on deadlift about six months before I squatted 405 the first time and that was with training squats religiously. My best pull has been 600 so far. I haven't maxed on a raw squat lately as I just competed with wraps, but based on my max with wraps and recent rep work I think I'm good for about 440. I'll be testing that in about 8 1/2 weeks when I run Sheiko.

I've never measured my limb lengths, but I assume I must be built more for deadlift somehow, shorter legs and longer arms. I'd like to get my squat up to 550-600 eventually, I don't see it ever catching my deadlift though. Maybe I should the Smolov routine on cycle sometime.

Mine is because of neglect. Ive been lifting for almost 10 years straight with no breaks. But I only did DL the first year and this last year. So its one of my weaker lifts (which is why im so obsessed with it).
I have a feeling soon my DL is going to get a lot better*

*I might be taking some PEDs
