Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

I think eventually I want to be at 275. This upcoming meet I plan on 308.

That seems to be the weight I stick at most often, 275.

I'd really like to surpass the 300lb mark someday I think... I've been close but honestly, things get a little precarious above 280. Every extra 5 pounds feels like 15 to me.

If I hit 300, I'd like to check out a strongman competition.

How tall are you @Eman?

With all that mass you probably have :p

Had to sacrifice some height for more width... :(

I was joking about the shrinking thing because my younger brother has officially grown taller than me, which was a hard pill to swallow, but my mom said he's only 6'-1". But he's noticeably taller than me, not just by an inch I don't think. So either she's mistaken or I actually did shrink lol.

I would like to have reached 6'-2" or so... Shouldn't have tried smoking ciggarettes in my teens. :)

I got to 5'9 then lost an inch due to injury so I'm standing at a mighty 5'8 I'd be thrilled with 6'

Edit: or 6" for that matter :(

@Marcus
Like Perrin said, its personally preference. but generally speaking, guys that are 250+ that pull conventional stand a little wider. when i pulled conventional, my feet were just like Perrins. maybe 4-8 inches apart.

with squats thats all personal preference too. play around with it and see what feels the best. with weigh change often times where you have to place your feet changes.

id reccomend taking video of yourself doing single of the same weight with different stances and see which one moves the fastest also

Thanks man! Is that the ultimate goal? Just to move the weight fast? I guess I would've assumed that all that matters is smooth. But you mean your wanna move it fast to keep muscles under tension for the least amount of time, to keep moving weight?

Yes, moving that weight smoothly without hitching is important. i think speed is something that needs to be looked at in the strength world. you cant always go by how it feels. Because that could be drastically different to how fast the weight actually moved. im not saying throw caution to the wind and just rip the shit off the floor. sometimes that will put you in a disadvantageous position later in the lift.

its just my opinion that speed of a lift needs to be looked at and is a useful tool to compare lifts over a peroid of time. or even within one set. how much faster was your first rep versus' your 5th rep? stuff like that.

Hmmmm interesting. Thanks man! Good stuff

PS Sorry for the intermittent high-jacking of your thread Perrin

lol, a little late but it looks like a lot of us here struggle to gain weight. im on a bulk cycle as of this week and i noticed to feel the same full feeling through the day that im used to feeling when bulking i had to increase at least 600 calories. im up at 4.2-4.8k daily. im at 194 at the moment.

At least cutting is a breeze for us. All the eating on a bulk gets old though.

I tried bulking but ended up getting bloated and it is hard to bulk for me as I get fat easy. I manage to do a slow bulk which takes a lot of time and slowly ramping up the cals.

Just came home today from Las Vegas..it was a great relaxing trip. Got some sun too!

Back to reality...and hitting the iron again tomorrow :)
