Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

Realized I'd been forgetting to update. Lifted with my new training partner all last week and yesterday. I think what we're going to end up doing is running his squat and bench programming and my deadlift programming. He's mid 600's squat, high 400's bench, and just at 600lbs deadlift.

Bodyweight is mid to high 220's right now depending on the day and has been as high as 232lbs after weekend cheat meals. Squats felt decent yesterday doing some 5's with 385lbs.

We have two guys hurt and one quit at work recently, so been picking up some extra work here and there.

Having so much fun aren't ya, lol. Seems like you are pretty much back to your old self and that's a great sign and getting to train with like minded people surely got you motivated!

Also getting more work must be a good sign as well...you are getting appreciated more.

Well, the manager did say he wished he had more like me. Part of it is only 4-5 guys have routes short enough they actually have enough drive time left in a day to do extra stuff and only me and one other are interested in it. The others won't take any extra work at all. So me and the other guy are taking turns. I'm good with that though. More money for me.

Pretty excited about how easy 610lbs felt today considering this is the first time I've pulled sumo from the floor in months and the most I've pulled from the floor since the injury last year.

Been hearing a little bit about how mixed will cause you to not engage the lat on the corresponding under hand and how you twist the torso a little bit on the way up. Do you compensate for these issues with the mixed grip? I went through a block of tens recently and doing the mixed grip started to hurt because it felt like I would favor one side of my lower back

I wouldn't say it completely doesn't engage the one lat, more like uneven engagement. There are both overhand and underhand grip back exercises after all. It's just something you need to get used to when pulling heavy. I stick to one configuration on heavy sets for that reason. Better to master one than half ass both ways in my opinion unless you're like ambidextrous.

I do a lot of deadlift accessories with straps for the even lat engagement like Romanians and sometimes block pulls.
 
Bench is pretty good still. How many times a week are you getting it in? I’ve been doing my 2 main days and throwing a single bench variant in with my lower training mid week. I think it’s helping.

Still benching three days a week. This guy I'm lifting with does stuff like paused one day, touch and go the second, and close grip the third. Mostly top sets like 2 sets of 3, but some volume stuff like 4x8 for close grip.
 
It's not far off from what I'm used to except with more focus on intensity over volume. He's hitting top sets way more often. We're also doing triceps pretty well every day, which is new to me.
Getting used to a change in your routine must be a bit jarring but looks like you making the change quite well. Bet that will help you get better results!
 


Here's the 635x1 from yesterday. Not sure what to call it RPE wise since it was easy off the floor with a mildly difficult lockout. Maybe 8.5.

I think you could add 30-40 lbs before you had real difficulty locking out. I think you got it off the floor easily due to good position and not having that hip so beat up. It interesting how things move when we allow ourselves full recovery. Since the meet I’ve taken it fairly easy until this week. I can tell is starting to move a bit easier now because my nerves aren’t fried and my joints don’t hurt.
 
Kinda thinking about throwing some Anavar in soon. Yesterday was one year since my last meet and I've only done one eight week blast since then. Still just cruising on 150mg a week of test enan. And 5g of creatine a day.

Strength seems to be holding up pretty well. Body composition has definitely gotten a lot worse, but part of that is diet related probably. Might keep cruising awhile longer yet to see what kind of numbers I can hit. There's another local meet next month that's tempting though. Bench and deadlift only.

Oh boy do I know about shitty body composition these days lol... need to get the weight and the fat down again
