Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

Nothing much to update. Tried to bench again last week and still no go. Worked up to 250lbs, but chest is still too tender to even lightly touch the bar against. Been over three months since dropping 335lbs straight onto my chest. Take my advice and always use the safeties.

Squat still not comfortable either, haven't been over 315lbs lately. Deadlift did work up to 545x3 last week without pain, so not a total loss there yet, although still paranoid about reinjuring the hip. So will continue to deadlift light for the foreseeable future. Feeling extremely weak, but to be expected I guess with dieting and injuries. The fact I couldn't lift heavy even if I started bulking tomorrow makes it easier though.

Bodyweight down below 200lbs for the first time in almost two years. Not as lean as I was last time was this light, so definitely lost some size this year. Gonna continue with the fat/strength loss phase about another month and then maintenence for perhaps a month.

Thinking I may try some hypertrophy stuff for the rest of the year and beginning of next year. I always say that and never do, but with so many injuries and being unable to really train any of the big three I need to do something different for awhile. Feels like wasting my time still training powerlifting with such light weights and obviously not enjoyable. Don't know if I can actually find enjoyment with BB style training, but like I said doing what I'm doing sucks. Me and the guys I lift with were screaming around on this delt machine the other day doing stupid high reps and really pushing each other beyond failure and it actually was fun. Never done anything like that before really.

Anyway, that's where I'm at for now. Work still kinda crazy off and on. Have missed gym due to 70 hour work weeks. Also made myself sick a few weeks ago really pushing my fasted cardio too hard. Well, not exactly the cardio itself, but the fasted time after and taking too many ibuprofen to fight off hunger headaches and washing them down with black coffee on an empty stomach. Turns out not a good idea. On the bright side puking up everything I ate for three or four days is what pushed me below 200lbs lol.

Sometimes a change is what you need. BB programming after a cut maybe what you need. Bulk, blast and build some more muscle. Then when healed, feeling the PL bug go for it

That sounds like a good plan at this stage, and hopefully this will get him back on track while regrouping and recovering.

Would been nice if it were a normal 40 hr work week too...

Black coffee as a way to reduce weight))) Man, you don't take care of yourself. I wish you health and strength to overcome everything that happens to you

Thanks!

I actually was able to bench again last week. Just hadn't updated. Went light, but no pain. 250lbs 3x5 Monday, 225lbs 3x8 Wednesday, and 275lbs 3x3 Friday. Bodyweight down to 193lbs. Going to really take it easy and ease back into benching, but hopefully can start to train fairly normally soon.

oooh, that's great news. Man, you will succeed and you will be able to implement everything that you have in mind.

I just now found this thread, what happened to you ?

Sloppy unrack and/or hand positioning on bench. Bar rolled out of my hand with 335lbs and fell straight from lockout position right onto my chest. No spotter or safeties set since it was still light. Went to the ER, but they said nothing broken. But was very sore for months and couldn't bench. Happened in June and just now getting back to benching last week.

Besides that some lingering hip pain from a 2019 injury. Hectic work schedule this year too. I'm still training regularly, but in a much reduced capacity. So haven't been bothering to log as it's just basic stuff for now. 3x a week full body, not much volume, and a lot of machine work for now.

I'm still here lurking though.

Wow.... people probably think I'm stupid, but I always bench from something that can save my ass should I pass out, etc.

No, that's smart and I've learned my lesson now. I guess it's easy to get careless when you think of weights as light when in reality they're really not. It definitely didn't feel light falling directly onto my sternum.

Yes, all injury, as a rule, comes from our own inattention and overestimation of our own capabilities. And life punishes us for such steps, injuries. The lessons of life, unfortunately, until we begin to teach them and draw the right conclusions)

You have my story of injury straight. I, too, used to underestimate light weights on the barbell and got injured just on relatively small weights. And the barbell punished me with injury again and again) And also made the right conclusions and learned this lesson, as I think perfectly well

Luckily it was only 335lbs and not one of the times I was YOLOing 405+ without a spot. Punished is an accurate description lol.

Yes, the main thing is now everything is much better and the bad is over. Which of us is immune to mistakes)? Nobody) We all sometimes do unreasonable things, but we are people)) But still, it's better without injuries and problems) Health to you again)

How are you doing, something has not been heard from you for a long time? how is your health, what are your future plans. Follow your forum thread with interest.

I'm good. Three weeks back to benching and hit an easy 315x1 Monday, so not terrible considering six months off bench and down over 30lbs bodyweight. Currently sitting around 191lbs. Still having hip issues. Tried to hit 585lbs the other day and felt a pop and my hip was pretty sore for 4-5 days.
