Rob's log part 2 (gonna take a crack at PLing)

There's this guy at my gym that loads ridiculous weight and keeps squatting higher and higher while screaming nonsense to himself about how he can't even feel it and it's too easy. Then brags to girls and teenagers how he's repping 500+. So annoying.

Have a guy like this in my gym too. He loads up to 585 and proceeds to do 5inch descents for multiple sets/reps.

I just wonder where in the hell this guy learned this from and what does he think he's getting out of it. Does he actually think he's squatting? One of these days I'm going to ask him. I'll report back, haha.

I think the one at my gym is delusional. He happened to comment on a mutual friend of my girl's on Facebook and she clicked on his page and showed it to me. Crazy stuff. Talking 405x15, the looks on people's faces when he's repping out 500 and the bar starts to slide down and he casually hoists it back onto his traps, how he's going to hit 600 soon, physique pictures talking about "this is how a powerlifter should look." Blew my mind. Seems one of his friends would have had the heart to break it to him by now or at least someone on social media, but I guess not. Crazy world we live in.

Hate to say it PA but sounds like you're going to have to be the one to break it to him. But please be gentle, don't completely shatter his world all at once. Tell him he has potential, that should ease the fall, haha.

The guy I mentioned seems more grounded. He always gives up the squat cage to my friends and I and keeps to himself, doesn't seem to be looking for attention. He's always watching us squat too. He's probably thinking, "what in the hell are those guys doing?" haha

I'd feel like I was telling a kid Santa wasn't real or something. Funny thing is his brother has a degree in exercise science and is really knowledgeable. No beast or anything, but has great form on squats.

Yeah, there's a lot of guys that keep to themselves and do half squats and I guess that's fine if you don't compete and don't know any better. Not optimal, but it's whatever. Doing it and bragging to everyone at the gym and on the internet is pretty obnoxious though.

Quick update.

I made a little adjustment and all the sudden my appetite has come back full force. Still playing around with ideas in my head for the rest of the program so maximize strength at the end. Since I started Sheiko I have been bouncing around 199-201 morning weight and 203-205 gym weight. Last night I was 211 and woke up at 207 today. It is probably a combination of not having the Sheiko volume workouts this week on top of my little change that brought my hunger back. Either way I feel thicker than last week that's for sure. Everytime I break 210 I can tell with my breathing.

Not sure what I'm going to do tonight. Probably a few DLs and bench and throw in some other back work I've been missing so dearly

I love the week I between training cycles where you can just do the exercises that make you happy to be in the gym and when you do them your vastly stronger then last time. Mines bent over rows I only get to do them every second Saturday and every time I do it they are increased by a lot.

211 you must look as thick as a Chinese phone book jeez man!

The heaviest I've ever been was 214. My original plan before PLing was to get to 225ish this winter. It's hard for me to tell if I look much bigger or not. I got a lot of comments last night at family dinner I went too. Lol

Tonight was a whatever night at the gym. Wasn't bad just didn't really have a plan. I did work on DLs a lot. Did a little bench which went really good.

Flat bench.
185 x 5
225 x 5
275 x 5
315 x 5
315 x 5
315 x 5
315 x 5
315 x 5

Dead lifts
135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 2
405 x 1 for 7 sets
315 x 1 for 2 sets
225 x 1 for 2 sets

Incline hammer strength press
Plates per side.
1 x 20
2 x 15
3 x 10
4 x 4

That was it. I had to of tried a different stance/foot placement/ any other form fix I could think of. Took a few videos. Nothing substantial found but I was able to get the my butt down a little bit more (nothing crazy). Super awkward honestly bar speed was horrible. Idk. I guess I'll just keep at it. The one good thing was my lifts were consistent form from 225-405. It's not like I can do it with light weight and not heavy. 315 for 5x5 went good. Made it through 4 sets with pause reps and had to touch and go the last set.

Some days bar speed just sucks, especially with trying new things. Any foot placement or adjustment feel more natural? If not just keep at it, it's going to click one of these days and you'll know it.

The closer I placed my feet the more I was forced to sit down. Just felt like I lost a ton of bar speed. That was the only way I was able to get my ass down any further. It sure made 405 feel way heavier than it should

The thing you'll want to watch for from a side view is if your ass comes up before the weight leaves the ground. You'll want to be low enough for a good position, but if you're too low your ass will come up to where it needs to be naturally and waste energy and throw off your pull. It's going to take some time to get it down, so don't get discouraged with it. It's just one of those things that takes practice and lots of video evaluation.

Look in those books I linked you to to the one called Starting Strength, it's got a whole chapter on deadlift form. Very detailed. Won't take long to read.

After reviewing my videos for the past couple hours. It's hard for me to decide. They all look just like this one when my feet are pretty damn close. This was only a 3 plate pull and is the most hidden of them all lol

Does this look any better? I know it didn't feel any better lol.

The back angle looks better, but I think the knee angle is less than optimal because of it. I think you want about a quarter squat type position to really have the most power from the floor. I could see where that would be hard to break the floor with. I don't know, maybe doc or RT will have some thoughts on it when they come along.

Like you said it'll take some time. It's hard without someone coaching you while your doing it. But I'll get it figured out eventually. I'm to stubborn not to

Were you start is absolutely ideal I took it and put it in my slowmo app and you bob down essientially taking away the premium leverage point you had when you set up. Don't sink before you pull find your spot like the position at the beginning of the video then pull tension on the bar and raise up. No need to exaggerate the ass down and it closes your knee angle and results in a larger ROM then neccasary
