Steroids, Gynecomastia and Gyno Surgery

Who did your surgery?
Seems like the same as you judging by your protocol/timeliness with the vest and the shirts? Dr Adajar at XSculpt. Fucking incredible surgeon and artist. Full gland removal. One of the best things I have done! Well worth the cost and I am SO, SO GLAD I didn't go to a local surgeon who barely even does male gyno surgeries and probably would have fucked it up. Then I would have had to go to Dr Adajar anyway to have him fix what the other doctor fucked up.

Honestly. If a doctor doesn't spend at least 50% of living his surgeries doing gyno removal then you shouldn't go to him. Go to the best, period. That means Dr Adajar, among others. I don't remember their names right now. Some guy in Florida. The Austin Gencomasita Center (or something?). I am sure there are really good ones in LA/California.

Damn you had to have that drained? Has anyone else had that complication? You did it @ Xsculpt. ?Can I ask how much it cost you? Or I would assume a local surgeon who could do that(removal of fluid) for you?

He sent me the stuff to do it myself, it was easy and painless. Pretty common for It to happen when you get any kind of lipo. $6,500

How long did it take for you to see final results? I am just past 5 weeks and still holding some fluid and swelling.

It was so long ago..I think other than some bruising that had "waterfalled" down towards my obliques/stomach I looked pretty good by week 6. I think I had some minor swelling return after taking the compression shirts off. I wanna say week 12/month 3 I was pretty much stable minus a couple little changes over time. Usually I think 6 months is when you are fully stabilized. I had one stitch that wasn't dissolving properly that I had to take out, which caused me to be more careful with lifting.

I was lifting normally again by the third or fourth month. Then it just got better and better as my pecs got larger and more rounded.

Finally after years and years, I pulled the trigger and got the surgery. This might be long. Due to a panic attack when flying, and the only available driver being my 78 yo grandmother, traveling long distance to a well known gyno surgeon was out of the question. I got 4 local consultations. I personally thought I could start with excision only as I have little fat and clearly large masses. I wanted to use a well known doc, but closest one was 8 hours away.

First PS went on and on about my prior prohormone use. I mentioned it really grew my existing gynecomastia one time, and he kept bringing it up and pissed me off. Plus he wouldn't unless I quit smoking 3 weeks prior. Price for lipo plus excision was 4,600. 3 to 6 surgeries a year.

Second PS came in the room, immediately explained his procedure, then asked for questions. Didn't introduce his self, ask how I was doing, ask me any questions, nothing. He flat out looked uninterested and came off like he was in a hurry. He clearly wasn't crazy about it, during the entire consultation including till he left. When I asked if he had pics of his past surgeries like a gallery, he laughed out loud. Price for both was 4,600, 3 to 6 surgeries a year.

Third PS was a decent consultation. He wanted to try to get insurance to cover excision. But after seeing his price I didn't go back. Price for both was 8,500. That's what I'd pay a well known gyno specialist, not a no Name local surgeon, 3 to 6 a year.

The one I went with was a general surgeon who specializes in breast surgery. He does all the local men and women breast surgeries. I loved his consultation, took time listening, asking questions. I felt I could trust him, and he's been doing it a long time and knew what he was talking about. We pursued insurance but they were asking for more and more things. Surgeon felt with mine being primarily tissue, I'd be happy with trying excision only first. I ended up paying out of pocket, then finding out insurance will pay some. So I should see a reimbursement of some money soon. Paid $3,000. He asked how much gland to remove and I told him as much as possible. He didn't prefer drain tubes, but decided during the surgery. I didn't want any but that was his call. They looked like a pia to deal with

As of today, about 3.5 weeks post op. I used ibuprofen but could have gone without anything. Bruising gone, swelling in both sides with one having more. My 2nd biggest problem with my surgeon was aftercare. I knew better from research but he said he noticed little difference in past patients wearing compression vests, and didn't say I needed one. I ended up buying a compression shirt but found out it wasn't tight enough. Due to size of one mass, he used one drain tube but it clogged 4 days in so he removed it and wanted to see if body would absorb the fluid.

Main problem has been recurring seromas, probably from lack of compression until 2 days ago. I have had 55ml in one side, and 60 in the other, drained two different times. After both draining, they refilled in 3 days. Although after last drain but before I bought the vest, both slowly began to subside. My surgeon is not crazy about draining, citing risk of infection. Pretty sure he wants the body to rid the fluid and not rely on needles. He has been quick to fit me in everytime I wanted to see him. I understand his angle, but these got extra large from the fluid. I have 3 months of paid office visits from paying.

Considering I still have some fluid that appears to be going away, I'm happy with the way my chest looks 3.5 weeks out. I might need lipo under my nipple, but that may resolve when swelling goes away. Truth is, I'm not a body builder nor one who's ever been under 15% bf. Nor will I ever, I've always been slightly overweight and learned to be content at my weight. I can run my 30 or so miles a week and eat whatever, and l cycle lifting heavy weights thru out the year. They say you don't see results till 3 to 6 months, so I could end up really needing lipo or even happier than I am now down the road. I probably forgot a bunch of things, and may add more later. Despite the serious pain from big seromas, I'd absolutely go thru everything again to get rid of the massive tissue I had. I couldn't wear anything light colored and had to always wear loose shirts. I could not be see without a shirt in the summer, ever. So glad I decided to go through with it, and feel despite my issue with his post op care, I chose a good surgeon based on how I look this early on.

Any chance of seeing some before and after pics? No homo. Well, maybe a little.

Thanks for posting this man. I have very minor gyno and have been trying to find a surgeon. Two local plastic surgeons quotes were both around 8800-9000 with gland removal and minor lipo and i liked one of the surgeons but damn its expensive. I have a consult coming up with a general surgeon who removed one of my gym buddies gyno and had insurance cover it ,so trying that route now.

Be prepared for possibly an ultrasound and mammogram. My doctor got those done first and we believe why insurance up and decided to cover it. He never checked my bloodwork at all, as in looking for out of range estrogen or testosterone. You need to make sure you tell him they are painful and sensitive, and how daily activities bother it and that goes on record to insurance.

Buy a good zip up compression vest and wear it for 6 weeks after surgery. If you don’t the seromos will keep coming back. My surgeon told me that most seromas bigger than 10cc need to be drained. If not you will have way more issues if it capsulate.

Yeah definitely get a compression vest AND I would say get some 1 to 1.5" foam pieces, cut to about 7x4 or 8x5 (however big it needs to be to cover you whole pec) and put that underneath the vest over your pec. That will help provide padding and even out the pressure of the vest. You may want to get 4 pieces of foam like this so you can swap them out, mine started getting quite grody after a week of wearing them basically nonstop. This is what the best surgeons do as far as I know.

Unfortunately I completely forgot to take pics myself before the surgery. The two I got were from a surgeon's consultation, my arms were up and that didn't make it look as bad. It was much worse with arms down, especially the right side.

3rd pic is 1 week post op. You can see the left swollen with about 50ml of fluid. Obviously the bruising shows way more tissue removed on right side verse the left. Oh and BTW, my surgeon chose not to drain the left this exact day, wanted to wait till next week.

After is 30 days post op. Still have swelling, mainly on right side. I'm concerned a little with how it's progressing, but I need to wait at least 3 months.

Extremely happy with just excision, I can see I have loose skin/fat on left where I had stretch marks. I need to wait till right settles down to see it. I probably won't bother with lipo, all I wanted was to look normal in shirts.

Dang its crazy how some people are almost recovered after 2 weeks and some people take months.

I agree. I think part genetics, part extent of the surgery, and post op care. Had I also got lipo, I'd probably be further back in recovery. Had I not dealt with recurring seromas, I'd be in better shape.

One thing with my right nipple now is that it's still swollen. I'm noticing when I run in the cold, it gets real perky like it's filling up with blood. Idk what's up with that but I hope it resolves. I can't feel any breast gland when it's warm so I can't see it as left over gland he missed.

So what caused your gyno. Was that from childhood or steroids ? Those nipples are something too that's crazy

I would and I do run a little masteron with Tren. It beats taking an AI.

Did your doc have you wearing a compression vest?

Holy crap. Does everyone have these complications post op?
I had none, just a lot of pain due to the lipo. Seromas are not uncommon. You can look up on pubmed to find some systematic reviews of complication rates. I want to say it was like...15% of lipo patients get a seroma or hematoma? I can't remember though.

Compression vests reduce the likelihood of both of those things happening, which originally I think @Tiredandhot 's surgeon did NOT use because he said he didn't notice a difference. He went and bought one himself. All the best docs use compression vests, so that should say something.

Smoking and any nicotine use greatly increases your risk of having a seroma or hematoma occur. This study found about a 3.5x greater rate of complications in nicotine users than non-nicotine users. Even nicotine replacement like vaping and gum and patches were no better than smoking in terms of complication rate. This seems to be primarily due to the extreme vasoconstriction and impaired healing of nicotine users. Some doctors will not do plastic surgeries on smokers because of the increased rate of complications. Seroma is one of the most common complications to occur after lipo, because your body is trying to fill in the void left by the lipo. This is why compression helps so much, it makes it so that void is quasi-closed and thus your body doesn't try to fill it up with fluid.

So no. Most of the time guys have no complications and things are good. But complications do happen, which is why getting surgery is no joke. Complications can be anything from some fluid all the way up to death for whatever odd reason. (Yes, people have died from lipo. I haven't really looked into the details about why though.)

Surgery is expensive and it's a big decision. Far too many people nowadays seem to be going about it very nonchalantly. Every woman and her sister and aunt and grandma are getting boob jobs, lip injections, lipo, tummy tucks, butt lifts/injections. It's really fucked up IMO. I've never been a fan of the fake boobs/fake lips/fake butt look. Fucking build your body, don't buy it.

HOWEVER, When you have something that is a problem you can't control that really does cause you distress, like gyno or perhaps extremely small boobs that mess with your head and a woman wants to feel more "womanly" so she gets implants, or someone has an insanely huge nose and wants it reduced, that is a different story. These aren't people chasing after the "perfect body" they see on instagram, they are doing one-off procedures to improve their mental health and well being and confidence, and IMO that's fine. Not that my opinion matters though LOL

I had some from childhood, but it really grew a few years ago while on test blast and high dose of hgh. I personally think it was the hgh as I've always kept estrogen in range. But can't prove it.

And what MFAAS Said was right, my doctor didn't recommend a vest. And even last week I asked about it agsin and also a heat pad, he didn't believe they would help. Going back in time I would have used both from the start. Apparently some patients require drain tubes well after the surgery if fluid continues too much.

In regards to complications, I do smoke so that could be a big factor. But he said every patient is different and won't really know until after the surgery. It was a big decision, but looking back at past pics I'd go thru it again to get my results. I still seem to have some fluid coming back, but nowhere near how bad it was.
