Strongman Thread

I'm up to 7 reps at 515 deadlift in 60 seconds. This includes bar approach and setup.

We weren't sure how the timer will work in comp so we prepare for the least favorable scenario. 5' back from bar, timer starts, approach bar, setup, start pulling.

I've improved from 6 reps about 3 weeks ago when I last tested. Goal for comp i set then was 8.

Is this how they do it? Put 60 seconds on the clock and see how many reps you can deadlift in that time? And why 515?

That's one of the events at my upcoming comp. Last year they deadlifted for a max. This year is reps for 60 seconds.

515 is the weight for my weight class. Couldn't tell you how they arrive at the weights they choose, but I'm fine with it.

My guess would be that you'll be allowed to setup before time begins.

Yea that's where I was leaning but I always like to train for the suboptimal conditions.

My setup was fucked yesterday and cost me 13 seconds off the top.

I moved at a pretty steady pace and wasn't too winded , so hopefully if given the chance to set up off the clock it will net me another rep easy.

Would very much like to see you run a log, my friend. I think I will run one in the not too distant future once I get some things in my personal life sorted out... I'd like to live vicariously through you until then. :)

I will leading up to my next meet probably.

At this stage in my training everyone would laugh at the nonsensical approach I've had to prepping for this meet.

They say if you're gonna be dumb you gotta be tough, and lately I feel like I've just been being tough as nails.

I'll see how it pays off in 3 weeks

Lol it might not be as nonsensical as you think... Strongman isn't something that really has a lot of rules. I really think most have to "make it up as they go along" to a certain extent.

A lot of Juggernaut programming and principals fit well with strongman. So I've tried to keep somewhat close to Chad's methods, I think if I avoid straying to far from them I'll be on the right track.

^^^right^^^ Seems like all the WSM guys have pretty different training routines.

What's your approach going to be?

Try to get faster at current load first?
Feel more stable?
Or... Go progressively further distance?
Or gradually increase the weight?

I'm still sore from Sunday afternoon! But tomorrow evening I shall be doing it all over again.

I was surprisingly fucking quick at 230. So I think I'll slowly creep the weight up until speed or grip starts going. Then stay there for a while and repeat. Prob keep it at 100' distance because that's what my training area allows without multiple drops or changes in direction.
