Strongman Thread

Na.. the grass is relatively solid.

It's pretty easy to stay tight the whole time too. You tend to shuffle your legs moreso than picking them up and walking.

What type of shoes do you wear?

I do pushes usually with 5 plates per side, for a couple hundred feet.

Attach a rope to the prowler and do hand over hand pulls, seated. You can attach tow ropes and do drags, walking rear flyes...all kinds of shit

Depends. I've actually stuck with Converses on several occasions. I have a pair of Nikes I wear sometimes too.

I thought you might have went no shoes. All caveman out there in the back country.

Lovely. I can't wait til my log is ready!

Had a great session tonight at a crossfit gym... Did yoke carries up to 230kg. Last run was 15m in 11 seconds. Pretty pleased.

Multiple sets of tyre flips with a 230kg tyre, too.

I fucking hate the prowler... Which isn't a surprise to me, to be fair.

What footwear are we recommending, guys?

Oly shoes for the static lifts, I assume...
What about for the moving ones... Some people saying Chucks, some running shoes, some Vibram five fingers...

But really imo it depends on the surface you are training on. They're working great for me so far. For Eman's grass training they wouldn't be the best.

Digging the thread. : )

Ever worry about hyperextending the knee while stepping in a divot or not flexing properly? Think of the leg bending 90° in the opposite direction like that chick that broke her leg in the leg sled...
that hurts, badly. Mine was more sideways then completely backwards but yeah, talk about pain.

I'm using Chuck's for everything. Avoid running shoes for any big weighted movements, in my opinion. Most running shoes aren't made to hold up under 800 lbs. My Adidas were blowing out all over the place the first time I tried yokes and heavy carries.

These have actually been the best gym shoes I've ever owned. Needless to say I don't do tons of distance running or anything, but as a guy who would ultimately prefer to do everything barefooted, this is as good as it's gonna get.

When I was a kid we would get these things called beer balls. Budweiser made them. It's a large plastic ball that houses around 60 beers and you would tap it like a little mini keg. I bet you could use that as an Atlas Stone mold. If it doesn't work out your had an excellent evening at worst :)AR-160519625.jpg.cf.jpg

I've been trying to come up with some ideas for a conditioning day I have on Tuesday's... Came across this video, thought it was pretty cool:

Farmer carries at 100kg a hand today, on the extra wide implement.

Thoughts: I fucked the pick so badly, several times. Scraped my calves pretty harsh and it slowed me down loads. Won't happen again.

100 a hand is pretty hard. Draining.

1 set of 15m downhill then 15m uphill was spot on. Second set I kept dropping them on the uphill.

Didn't try a third, instead dropped the weight to 65 a hand and did down and back in one go, six times with little rest. Again, draining.

Learned some things today.
