Transgender at work

First off, before I begin most here now I am about racism, sexism, etc. So if youre just going to post fuck all transgenders they should die or something similar, please just dont post.

I just moved this week and my new work has a transgender "male". A male who identifies as female. First time ever dealing with this in real life, and its interesting. He wants to be called she, looks super feminine, etc etc.

As open minded as I am im having a hard time. And for those who know my job, you can tell why its different from other jobs.

So far ive just tried to avoid him/her, just seems easier. But I cant do that forever.

Anyone here dealt with transgender in real life?

*Not insulting intelligence but just to be sure everyone knows. Transexual are the dudes who took hormones and have titties. Some still have weiners, some dont.
Transgender are just people who have all the regular parts but are a different sex "inside"

Having been to NYC more times than I can even remember and having a transgendered person work in my local McDonald's, another at the local dunkin donuts, and another at a local supermarket....yea I've dealt with them. It's simple enough to respect their wishes to be referred to as females. No skin off my back and it really makes no difference in my life to do so.

The hard part for is just looking and seeing male. My first instinct is to say him. But youre right, guess I just gotta get it in my head.

I agree that it's no skin off my back and doesn't affect me in any way so if he wants to be called she, then whatever that's fine. That does not change the fact that it's not a she. If you're born a man, you're always a man even if you cut your dick off and take female hormones.

I know a few trans people. Good folk, able to laugh at themselves, but have had it real tough trying to get through life. Just got to watch any documentary on young kids who go through gender crisis and the challenges for their families when a kiddie under 10yo considers suicide as real option. It shows that some genetics are more powerful than social expectations. She may have never met a bodybuilder or powerlifter before. Probably thinks youre some weird dude, who eats a lot of food and spends too much time in the gym lol ;)

Tell him/her/it you prefer to be called sir awesomeness before you acknowledge some one speaking to you. It hurts your feelings and "inside" you truly feel awesome. And if they neglect your wishes then sue them. Tell them you will need a bathroom labeled "sir awesomeness" and that you require a paid daily nap as part of your belief system. If they disagree. Take it to the media. Hopefully one of them loud mouthed spokesmen types will fight for you.

Good luck jay

I know of someone's brother who is gay and has recently transitioned to being open about living a transgendered life. I find it interesting and don't have any qualms at all, as we are who we are. If he wants to be identified as she, so be it. I don't see the big deal, however I understand that this is something new for you and will take some time to get comfortable with the idea of identifying him as her, even though you still see a him dressed as a her.

Oh, and I have a friend who's 13 year old daughter now wants to be identified as a him and is already talking about wanting to transition to a male, by taking testosterone, etc. My friend is having a hard time dealing with it, as she knows that it's going to be such a hard life for her kid.

Lmao. Youre one of the few folks who know what I actually do, so you see why its so weird. But I guess I gotta get used to it o_O

I get the weird part on this one but growin up in the dumb city I did transgender people were absolutely everywhere. I have had to work with them from time to time and it's not horrible at all, I'm thrown off by the makeup but whatever. I always say yes sir to everyone usually, just say it's a habit due to the work you are in.

Side note- having a transgender person try to flirt with you is extremely awkward so hopefully you don't have to experience that:p

A better life thru chemistry , isnt that what WE are all about too ? I see several transgenders getting his/her estrogen filled while I get my testosterone filled at Walgreens. We are each trying to become our own vision of perfection ....to each his own .
(She could be your new BFF.... ;))

Jay, it's only a problem if you make it to be. It's the same respect I would give everyone else. I have kids. I would love and respect them for any decision they make in their life, including gender identity.
It comes down to you either believe it's a condition or its a choice. I believe it's a condition and I treated that way. People in the this type of minority has a hard enough time with society, an individual with a fresh perspective would go along way, especially if the other person is a great or a decent human being.
My2cents.

Interesting development. My job does random weekly uranalysis. So she had already been given permission to use the female bathroom, but has to be observed by a male. 1/2 because of the equipment but mostly because no women wanted to observe...

I work in the same building as a Transexual. I knew him befor he started his therapy from smoke breaks and just running into each other around the building, on the elevator, and so on. Fast forward about 3 years and he is now a she. It was very interesting to watch some of the hormonal cosmetic transformation as it occurred. She is still the terrific person she was, now only happier. The sad thing is that people began talking behind her back and making an issue out of it. As a result she stopped socializing as much, and sticks to herself more. I always make a point to say hello and asks how she it doing. Why not?! She's the same person I met 5 years ago, she's more comfortable in her own skin - aside from those who talk behind her back or for whatever reason are not adult enough to process the situation.

As far as bathrooms go. I think Unisex bathrooms are a great idea, mostly to appease those who have difficulty with the idea of a trans man or woman in a "regular" mens or woman's room.

But personally I don't think it should matter if a man changes to a woman and then uses the woman's bathroom. Do we really think guys are doing this to secretly perv on women? Or vice versa? It just presupposes that someone who goes through such a procedure is somehow deviant.

Live and let live and let's all be adults. Everybody has to take a shit and take a piss - multiple times, everyday!

That was gonna be my question... which bathroom do they use.

False. Girls don't poop....

It's a weird situation, for sure. And an endless rabbit hole of debate.

My wife has a friend who's going through the process fem to male. Sad part is, she was really cute as a female. She's on HRT now and is getting her tits removed... I still refer to her as 'her' and don't know if I'll ever be able to see her as a guy.

Oh you'll definitely be seeing her as a guy very soon

I could give a fuck what anyone does as long as it does interfere or bother me in any way. Never worked with a transgender or transsexual. As long as people respect you, you should respect them. I'm into my own weird shit, different folks have different strokes.

May I suggest we take this Sir Awesomeness one step further and make a religion out of it?
