My first experience with a transgender was when I was about 13 years old. My mother was taking my brother and I to this guy to get our haircuts. The guy was named John, and he had long blonde hair and nails. I just though at the time he was different, I didn't know what gay people or transgenders were.
Then one day out of nowhere the guy tells us that his new name is "Jackie" and apparently the guy had the full-blown operation done to become a woman. My Dad found out about it and made my mother stop taking us there to get our hair cut. But I had no idea what a transgender or gay person even was until about 9th or 10th grade.
We didn't even know what the word "faggot" meant back then, it was just something we all called each other from time to time.
With your situation, here is what you need to remember; it's a different day and age. It doesn't matter what your opinion is on this person, if you treat them differently or if the place becomes a hostile work environment, you're going to see people lose their jobs. With all of the discrimination and fair labor practice laws in place today, you can bet a company will side with a minority before anyone else to save face. If you treat them any differently then it may be YOUR JOB ON THE LINE.
Your opinion doesn't matter and you're entitled to it, you just cannot show it or share it at work. I wouldn't talk about your personal views with coworkers at all.

Just let him or her or what ever it is. That you are in the process of becoming a unicorn . and should respect your wishes. There really is that movement. But on another note I say fuck all that shit. I would avoid them. We live in a age were we are over sensitive to peoples needs. The problem is nobody ever told them there wrong and whoop there ass. This is a stereotype, but one that has held true for all of my (known) encounters with transgendered men (who want to be women). They have all worn some kind of scent that triggers my allergies, which can literally incapacitate me in the span of a couple of minutes. Of course, my making a hasty retreat sets off their bigot alarm.

Brain scans have shown, pre treatment and post, that their brains match the gender they're trying to assume and NOT the gender they were born. You insistence that they aren't born that way is without merit and an ignorance based assumption.

I am not dealing with transgendered in my life right now, but if I did work with one, then I'd would treat them just like any other human until they prove that they don't deserve my respect. It doesn't matter to me when they prefer as long as they good people. This may be easier for me to accept because I've grown up with and around gays and lesbians due to my wife.
No. I accept who they are. I don't judge. But yes it is a choice and there is a root reason why they are the way they are. Just treat them with the respect and dignity you would treat any of your other coworkers. No need to make an issue out of it or walk on egg shells around them; just call them by their preferred name and use their preferred pronouns, and move along with your day.

It took a couple days to get used to using the correct pronoun. Because habit has always been to say he. But she doesnt get upset if someone uses the wrong one, which makes it easier. So no issues here anymore.
