What R U Eating ? ~OGH wants to know.....

What's up brothers! Good job keeping this thread alive while OGH has been in Alaska. I have not been able to get on as much lately either due to archery elk season consuming all of my time. We killed a big 600 lb. + cow last weekend, I still have my tag and looking for a big bull now but we should be eating elk steaks before season is over.

Question for all you diet nuts out there. I was cleaning out my freezer and found quite a bit of leftover ground elk at the bottom. Any suggestions on how to prepare this into a meal without adding excess fat or carbs. Might consider adding rice or something but nothing too extravagant. Well any suggestions brothers? What would you do with it.

I might be hunting elk pretty soon myself instead of whitetail. Some big changes coming up in my life right now. I wish I had some advice for you but I've never had elk.

You can basically prepare it just like you would ground beef I just don't know a lot of healthy ways to prepare. I know the old standbys like meatloaf and chili but I'm looking for bodybuilder type preparation meals.

Here's the next 10 days worth of chicken, each bag cooks out to 1.5lbs. Bag a day. This is what I was doing when you posted - grinding chicken breast...
It may not be good with elk, but what I do to the chicken is sprinkle it with Ortega taco seasoning once its in the pan. Its the lowest sodium flavoring besides Old Bay that I can find. Old bay only really works on fish for me. Put a scoop of sour cream in with it and it turns into a stroganoff type dish.

I cant wait for bow season, if all goes as planned I will be headed west and looking to you for pointers on how to hunt elk with a bow OGS, i've only ever hunted whitetail from the trees.

also... you may think im nutts, but no fat no flavor greek yougurt can be substituted for sour cream and other stuff (mayo ect..) in just about anything that calls for it.

Yes! Love this, I do this with potatoes sometimes and it's great. That chicken breast you're gonna be cooking sounds amazing btw :)

I say 'I' like im cooking it, but its my fantastic wife that really is the magic here. I do grind it however, and at 1.5 - 2lbs (cooked weight) per day it has to be amazing or you start gagging on it. Im glad im not the only one that does the yogurt thing, starting to think I was weird.
I switch over to fish late in the day and for dinner but that really doesnt need much for flavor so I just inhale it with ease. Thats usually about 12 oz. but can be up to a pound as well depending on how hungry I get.
