Who is our biggest, most shredded member at Meso?

Hey, I recognize that backdrop.... That was the first show I ever competed in way back in 2004. Won the novice overall. Did the state show a month later and finished last in junior light heavy, lol. Hung my trunks up after that for 12 years.

You had to win the overall there. You looked awesome!

Yep, won the heavy weights and the overall. Tough show though. A lot of talent there. The middle weight winner had won the AL state overall recently and the light heavy winner had placed top 3 at the Jr. Nats.

Great show and the awards were pretty impressive too. The overall winner's swag included tickets to the Olympia both pre-judging and the night show for that year and some other nice stuff. I ended up not using the tickets but it was a cool thing to get them as part of the prize package.

I’m seriously thinking next year on the Masters... Still not where I need to be to be at that level. But I’ll have to compete somewhere between now and then to be qualified. I’m looking at a bigger one north of us in October. That’ll be a good test for me. Just let me know where you’re going so I can pick a different show, lol. Don’t wanna get smoked too bad...
From what I've seen in the heavy weights and super heavies it's all about conditioning in the 40+ and 50+ categories. You've got that dialed in. I think you'd do better than you think.

I’ve noticed that too. Seems like the older you get, sometimes it’s harder to get in the condition that you could in your 30’s, from what I’ve noticed.

I tend to look a little stringy at my height. I’ve gotta come in around 230 shredded to be really competitive, IMO. Try to shadow some of my weaknesses... I may be able to do that this year, but next year, if all goes well, I’ll be def be there.

Back in 04 the guy that won the overall and his wife also won the women’s bodybuilding, they both got their pro cards. I’d never seen anybody look the way that guy did backstage. He was unbelievable! I think I weighed 189 then.

That was back when it was real bodybuilding... the competition was crazy tough! If you won the overall back then, you really accomplished something. Nasser and Palumbo were the guest posers.

Go for it this year, last thing you want to do is check the results and see you were better than whoever won. Plus I may know someone else going...

Yep, that was before all this physique, classic physique, and 20 chick categories. It was certainly back in the day. I can’t remember who the guest posers were.

That was my first show after a long lay off from the stage. Didn’t get a lot of pics because it was out of state and we took a team of guys over there to do it. No one was really able to take pictures. I have no clue what I did with the video.

Won that one and then 2 weeks later won the open heavy weights and the overall at the NPC State Championships in our home state. It was a good year.

I wish I could, but I’m just not ready. I thought I would be, but I had some set backs earlier in the year that cost me some size. So we’re going on a much needed long vacation in June. I’ll still stay on my regular training and food schedule while we’re gone though. Either trifecta or mega fit will be shipping me all of my chicken and beef. I’ve been using trifecta the last few months for all of my meat. They’ll ship anywhere. But I just got a shipment of mega fit meat last week. It’s about the same price, but way better quality and taste.

Now that's some baller shit right there. Going on a long vacation and having your bodybuilding meals shipped in to stay on track. I'm in the wrong line of work apparently.

Hoping this year is mine for overall wins. May do more than one qualifying show; I feel like so much less of a man with only one trophy :(. Only 3 shows under my belt; one being Nats.

That was def a year to remember! You knocked down 2 overalls in arguably the 2 toughest shows in the region at that time. I remember seeing all the open guys backstage at the state show and they were all on a different level... It was nuts!

It's certainly not unheard of these days for a light heavy or even a really good middle weight to pull an overall win up at the National level. Although the overall isn't needed to get your card as you know (I try to keep in mind that not everyone that reads this stuff know how it works).

As far as State or regional that's a regular occurrence. Hell, @rutman took second to a guy last year that was qualifying as a heavy weight but Nationally competes as a LHW. That guy just missed his pro card twice last year at the North Americans and USA by 1 place.

IMO, being able to walk into a state or regional show only about 75-80% of your best and still win the whole show is kind of the bench mark of if you're on the verge of getting your card unless you're a light weight. Every guy I've known that could do so was either a pro that year or literally missed it by 1 placing.

This. Though at my last qualifier I matched up against a HW and a SHW that were both top 5 at Nats 2 weeks later with me. Sometimes the stars align and a show is nuts as far as talent goes.

Sounds like you’re well on your way brother
I really am givin it my all. Still need to nail my diet down in order to really shine. I wouldn't have made it where iam right now if it wasn't for help from guys like you. Ive been taking all the things ive learned right here over the years an puttin it all to work at one time all the time lol

That’s the goal this year

Probably the most satisfying moment I've ever had was before the pre-judging in the pump up room at the NPC state championship the year I won the overall. So many guys all there for the same goal. All of them pumping up like crazy while I literally laid under a table relaxing. I was last to pull off my clothing and the look on all their faces (and the faces of their support people) when they saw me was priceless.

I literally saw the last 16-20 weeks of hard work and hope drain from their faces and heard several audible "holy fuck, there's your winner" comments before I ever stepped on stage. It was a small thing, but everyone that was there with me still talks about it to this day. It's a fun story to tell new competitors because it gets them really fired up.

I ran across some other pics from that show that I'll share for shits and giggles. The pics are: the top 5 heavy weights, me accepting the overall trophy and my terrible pic on the cover of Southern Muscle Magazine (this was before the internet was a big thing) so magazine were still around. You nearly ALWAYS know who came to fuck shit up by who’s covered up until the minute they line you up for the stage. I’ll be far leaner for this qualifier than my last (won LHW at 181 lol). Can’t wait for that moment.

Legs are ridiculous on the mag cover man.
