1st cycle, out of shape, high bodyfat

Great story happening here! I thought I might offer a suggestion to help to focus your fat burning goals. If you can find a sports physiologist in your area that offers a gas exchange (sometimes called a V02max test) test I'd encourage you taking it. You've probably seen these before where you're on a treadmill or a bike wearing a mask attached to a hose and the machine that goes bing. What this does it accurately tells you what fuel your body is burning at a given output, in your case most likely heart rate. Those charts of 220- age etc only get a ballpark estimation and don't take many factors into consideration. When you can precisely determine where your body most efficiently burns fat for fuel you'll be able to really target your cardio and shed like a mofo. You'll also see where your body transitions from primarily fats for fuel to a mixture of fat and glycogen and then pure glucose if you can ramp it up that high. All of this can be extremely helpful in targeting where to train your cardio and how to become not only stronger and more lean but a well rounded athlete as well.

Thanks for posting your inspiring transformation.

Glad you're enjoying the thread. And thanks for the comments and positive words.

Getting a VO2 max treat would be great. ..... but I'm on a small island in the middle of nowhere Alaska lol. Not gonna happen any time soon :(

Something much closer (and free if you have a heart rate meter) than the 220-age would be a 30 minute max effort test. This isn't conceptually like a 1 rep max but the hardest you can consistently go for 30 minutes.

After a good 10-15 easy cardio warm up with maybe 4-6 10 second sprints with 50 seconds easy recovery you'll be ready to test. Begin a 30 minute effort. After 10 minutes hit the lap button. The average heart rate for the 20 minutes should be close to your lactate threshold.

Running at 85-89% of this number should be close to the "fat burning" zone. For example, if your average was 160 then keeping hr between 136-142 bpm will be your target for fat burning specific cardio days.

No running for me anytime soon. Just rehabbed the knee for the 3rd time. So I'm being very careful with it. Only time I really load it is on leg press, even then I'm only going to around 700lbs, so not very heavy. Even squats, I only use 135. Because there are times where if I just do them instead of focusing on my knee on top of form, my knee hurts like a mother fucker..... I like the ideas. I can do a slow paced cardio, like 3mph with a HIIT minute of 5mph walking. And easily keep my heart rate around 160-170 just by adjusting my breathing pattern, and shadow boxing. I gotta trick my body into believing it's moving faster and working harder, because doing the "athletic" stuff is out of the question for quite a while.

I never got injured in the past when I was bodybuilding. But have been seriously injured multiple times when I switched to Crossfit, MMA, Wrestling, etc. Congenital Hyper Mobility cause my joints to have an increased range of motion, including side to side, makes my highly susceptible to torn ligaments and tendons, sprains, etc. And I'm not taking any chance of getting taken out again lol

Hopefully you have a speedy recovery. You can use the same protocol on a stationary bike and then use 81-89%. Make sure the fit is correct otherwise you'll not only trash your knees and hips but you'll look like a grandma on a beach cruiser. If you have an indoor pool available up there in the wilderness that would be a great therapeutic solution for you. Cardio and some solid muscle recovery.

Heal up fast!

Most of the conveniences of mainland life aren't here lol.
The gym I go to reminds me of Dorian Yates Temple Gym. Small, and full of Iron. Old school feel.
One of these days I may be able to add in the bike, right now I use my treadmill at home because I have 55mins a.m. fasted cardio before work.

had some chick come up to me and my daughters while snagging groceries earlier. Told me I had the most gorgeous hair she's ever seen (probably been born and raised on this island), shuddered all gitty like, and said she is controlling her urge to touch it lmao.

I quickly quelled those raging waters by telling her it was super sticky from the hair cement I had just put in.

Things been kinda crazy this week with the wife having tons of prego appointments so training had been a bit lax. Hoping to make up a bit tomorrow but we will see. Still sitting at 273 with 26% bf..... been at a stalemate seeing as how i missed most all my cardio this week and half my lifting sessions..... but better than back tracking i suppose.

Whenever life got busy during the time I was dropping weight and had to miss the cardio and lifting, the most important thing I had to remember was to stay consistant on the eating. I found it easy to feel like missing the gym was a day off from the healthy life style. Just because you are not working out does not mean you are not still making progress as long as the diet is still in check. Also get ready for some big appearance changes. When I went from 26% to 21% that was when everyone stoped just asking if i was loosing weight and starts asking if i was working out.

Diet has stayed on point for sure! Mixed a few meals but been eating clean still.

Rewatching Olympia pre judging. .. trying to see if I see something different this time. ... I got Dexter, Dennis and Phil as the 3 who can take it but I've got Dex and Dennis as top.... though Phil dominated the side triceps shot.

Hey throw up a link. Flexonline didn't have it live they said they would.

Btw... is it just me, or do the guys just not look as good as they did 10 years ago? Big Ramy would be unstoppable if he were shredded, but he was super smooth last night and couldn't hold his shots.

Dexter and Dennis are neck and neck imo.

Dex takes symmetry, and his calves are bigger and better.

Dennis takes size.

Both shredded as fuck.

Phil definitely impressed though. Full and symmetrical. If he comes in tonight a bit more shrink wrapped then I think he can take it with out being handed it.

I see Rhoden as 4th atm.
