Suboxone is a double edged sword. If used properly it will help people but it is harder to stop than the Os and H IMO
Plus for many years we would hoard suboxone just for the days that we couldn’t score any dope so we didn’t get sick. Suboxone for a while just bought us a day or two to get more money or get through a family event you didn’t want to go to looking half dead. After the subs wire off is was back to the race.
They are good if your ready to stop but the patient needs to know how hard it is to stop. 10-12 years ago nobody told us the cons to them. Nor do I think the pharma co told the doctors
I agree. Suboxone still binds to opioid receptors..so it still has the dependency and withdrawal issues. But, it works if someone truly wants sobriety and any addict knows that trying to "taper" off junk is impossible unless you are in the 1% with an iron will, or were able to cold turkey by locking yourself in your house for 5 days while having someone administer you clonidine and xanax lol.
Personally, I found that Suboxone detox is easier than all the opioids I used to use. I think a major problem is that doctors taper people very quickly rather than slowly, and many doctors are making people drop when they are still using 2mg or even more. Of course you are going to detox bad if stop that high; 2mg of Bupe is still very strong. If doctors didn't start people at 16-24mg (very very few people need more than 8mg starting IMO), and if they tapered people down to 0.25-0.5mg before cutting, people would have an easier time. Suboxone for me also helped me get rid of the addict mindset of dosing every few hours. The act of using drugs is a big part of addiction. Breaking that cycle of NEEDING to re-dose every 3-4 hours is one of the reasons why I believe Suboxone is effective. Everyone is different. Some people have a really hard time detoxing from Bupe (generally I think that is due to poor or ill-informed tapering protocols from doctors though) and say it is harder than the junk, but some people who taper "correctly" have a much easier time.
