Dogs

National Dog Day (Also known as: International Dog Day & National Dog Appreciation Day) is celebrated August 26th annually and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.http://www.nationaldogday.com/

Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

Personally, my life would not be complete without dogs (& cats).

And still they cannot figure out the simple act of just shitting in the toilet instead of on the floor.

Humans are supposedly the superior species and yet it seems 75% of them can't train their dogs to not shit on the floor. I'm not buying that humans are the superior species.

Sister in laws dog got killed by a car yesterday . Heart broken , she would stay with us when my sis would deploy out for the army and she became part of our family . Not sure what breed was but she was huge compared to my pits. It wasn't her time to go and I will truly miss her forever. R.I.P ippoe. Love you baby !!

tango i watch you posts and very few do i disagree with but on this one your are wrong , retrievers are bred to hunt, bloodhounds are bred to track, pointer are bred to point, and a boarder collie is bread to have the instinct to herd sheep , pit bulls are bred to fight , im not saying they are all bad but i would rather have my son around any other dog period ..

Elle the Pit Bull, therapy dog and friend, receives national recognition for her work with school children in her home state of North Carolina. Judge the deed not the breed!

This is a real positive thread and I don't want to bring it down but just want to say our 11 year old Labrador x Border Collie died 3 days ago. Wife and kids are shattered and I've been dealing with vets etc and haven't had time to think about how much he'll be missed. That was up until my first work our since. He always laid next to the gym watching and waiting for me to finish so he could follow me back inside. My groaning, swearing and throwing weights around never phased him. First weights session and I kept looking over and expected to see him :( certainly a member our our family and got to say, a mans best friend
A few months ago we had to get another dog as it just wasn't the same around here. We got a 7 week old pup whose mother had been dumped and rescued pregnant with a litter of 12. He's 5 months now and weighed in yesterday at 38.5lb. Him and our 6yo son are seriously best friends already. Very cool to see

They were bred to fight, some still are. Elle is a rescued "American Bully", not what I would consider a American Pit Bull terrier by the old standard.

Nonetheless, true game-bred APBT's that are bred for the sole purpose of matching SHOULD NEVER show any human aggression. Match dogs that show aggression towards people are culled immediately, dog aggression is the only desirable trait when breeding for blood sport. You have to remember these guys handle the dogs in the pit. By Cajun Rules, before a match the handlers' wash their opponent's dog, and then handle your own dog during the match. There is an absolute 0 tolerance policy towards human aggression among true dogmen...it's unfortunate what some of these backyard breeders have done to this great breed. I love all my bulldogs, and would trust them around anyone including small children, but should I even have a shadow of a doubt.....I'd put any of them down in a heartbeat.

As someone who had a pit in the past(RIP), I find it hard to believe they are "fighters". He spent his days farting and sleeping under the covers. He was extremely submissive, despite being built like a brick house. Dogs are much like people, they emulate their enviroment.
