Hair Loss

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

That is what I think, based on personal experience... the exact amount of gear will vary from person to person... We also discuss DHT, you know, but estrogen levels also play a role in libido and are responsible for many of Propecia's side effects such as gyno. In short though, the formula that worked for me is keep test levels high-normal with HRT and using 1.25mg of finasteride per 250mg of testosterone (when I formerly cycled).

I can't discount that I have had 2 small hair restoration procedures (on the hair line) I'm very sensitive to male pattern baldness, but without finasteride or some of my other recommendations (listed on my little website: hairlossfromsteroids.com) I think the alopecia would have been much greater.

Well I don't think 3600 grafts total is two "small transplants". Just saying they were 1800 grafts each puts you in the moderate transplant range ( ONly H+W Are doing the mega 7000 graft procedures and doing it right IMO). I had 3 transplants, 500 grafts in 1999, 500 grafts in 2001 and 1000 grafts in 2006. Obviously knowing what I do now the first HT should have been 1000 grafts not 500.

I have been on Propcia/Generic Fin for 15 years with no sides

fair enough, "smaller transplants"... Small compared to the mega sessions that some doctors are doing :)

Was your HT done in 1999 really good?

I replied to you question about Body hair transplants and UMar, I'm not sure if you saw it as it's a page back

Oh yes it was Follicular units just like what they use today. I consider Ron Shapiro one of the best HT DR's in the world ( top 5 IMO) but he is THE BEST when it comes to hairlines, he knows Dr Cohen and said the work I have had done ( I had a tryclosure in 1999 on my scar as Cohen was way ahead of his time) is top notch but he may pop a couple 2 hair grafts I have at the hairline and split them up and replant them when he does my hairline.

I can shave my head easily to a number 3 guard without the scar showing and Dr Ron is going to come back after my hairline surgery and put FUE grafts into the scar. Since I'll be around 45 when it's all don hopefully that's it for HT's.

You must like HT's a lot more than me to keep using drugs you know are going to make you have to get additional work

Here is a link to photos of my hair, make sure you click on them and read the narrrative about timelines. All of these photos were taken in Ron Shapiros office with the same camera and lighting. My crown is now full as the last photo was taken in 2009 ( pics were taken around the same time in 2007, 2008, 2009) and I get new pics taken Monday that will show the full crown that I will post. I also have never had any crown work done

Looks excellent man! Dr. Shapiro's work is really good, I'm looking through his website for the first time in a while. You have a denser head of hair than I do and a better donor area. You have no sign of a scar. I think I'll need some FUEs in the right side of my scar. It is somewhat visible cut at a 3.

I really go easy on the androgens, anavar and superdrol treats me good. HGH does too. Dr. Rassman claims that HGH can accelerate androgenic alopecia moreso than testosterone. I don't know if I believe that obviously...

I'm still dealing with some major shedding (hopefully temporarily) that I seemed to get from melanotan-2. Apparently I'm not the only person who shed big time on melanotan 2. I'm going to discuss that on my website, gotta remember to do that.

My last hair transplant (1637 grafts) with Dr. Siporin was rougher than the first. I must have been taking too much fish oil (which thins your blood) because I bled and bruised like crazy... nothing that didn't go away in a week or 10 days but it was the most that Dr. Siporin had seen. So that made me less apt to have another hair transplant.

Lemme get some pictures up for you guys. (ill recheck the previous for your thoughts on Dr. Umar)

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

The work you see was done by Ivan Cohen, Shapiro will do my hairline when I decide to have it done.

I know I lost hair taking Glutamine and Nitrous Oxide earlier this year, thank god it's growing back. My photos Monday will be interesting as they should show more hair than I had in 2009 ( and even 2007 and 2008) and I haven't had a transplant sinch 2006

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

Hey guys, I've been talking a lot about a product called "Toppik" and suggesting it to a few people. I wanted to post up a few pictures to show how effective it is for me.

there's about 120 reviews over at amazon.com, if you'd like to check it out [ame="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009FHJR8/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=hailosfroste-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B0009FHJR8&adid=1BTW3KENVJDB298YWE72&"]Amazon.com: Toppik Hair Building Fibers: Beauty@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/316eLCN8yEL.@@AMEPARAM@@316eLCN8yEL[/ame]

lemme see if I can get the pictures to fit

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

That stuff works great but how about if you sweat or it rains ? Have you ever told people you have it in to see if tye can tell at all as photos never tell the rue story.

How long ago did you get the 1600 grafts done ?

its fine in the rains and definitely sweating... they attach really well to existing hair.

I'm pretty open with stuff and tell people, in some strange way, I'm proud that made the decision to juice years ago and was resourceful enough to find stuff like toppik.. so its all good. The main thing is having hair for the toppik to adhere to.. it was important that I got my hair line lowered, otherwise they'd be no hair line at all.

oh and, I got the 1637 grafts done April of 2010.. I've experienced a major shed recently (the past 3 months). Melanotan 2 I believe..

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

I left my email in the PM.

I would look into someone like Dr Shapiro for you next HT as going between hairs can be tricky and you can ger permamanent shockloss.

Lowering the hairline can have drawbacks though because you can end up with not enough grafts to fill it all in, I know you talked about BHT and if that is your plan you should discuss it with your DR and use all of your remaining grafts fro the front of your head as BHT just looks strange IMO so if you have to do it use it in the crown

hey I shot you an email back

yeah there's lots to consider. I mainly want to have enough density for these hair fibers to 'grip' onto. They work pretty well for me. Shock loss is a concern, I experienced it last time for sure. BHT is definitely best for the non-frontal zone... except for beard hair Dr. Umar told me. He said he would use it to solidify the hairline

I'd be VERY CAREFUL with those BHT's, as I said the best job I ever saw was on a giy who was butchered from a scalp reduction and although it was a major improvement it looked like pubic hair on his head

Remember photos NEVER tell the true story in hair loss, The photos of BHT you are seeing are the absolute BEST results not the average and Dr Umar also does strip and FUE ( head hair) so make sure you are looking at the correct photos or BETTER YET see someone in person.

We also have dark hair which is the worst for hair lost as the contrast between hair and skin exposes thinning much more than say a white guy with blond hair would.

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

Hi,
I am on TRT(Cernos depot- similar to Nebido) for 9 months now. injection every 90 days.

I have lost a good portion of my hair. especially, from past one month. took Testosterone Lab report and it shows 7.8. so, consulted Endocrinologist Doc and He asked Me to wait 3 weeks before continuing injection(injection was to be taken on 16th August 2011. I doubt this value may have resulted in sudden increase in hair loss.
I was not aware of this thread. I used Ayurvedic Shampoo and Pantene pro-v Hair Fall control conditioner while bathing.

I would like to know, if Mintop(minoxidil) or Nizoral will work in preventing hair loss and possibly hair gain. I have less natural testosterone and hence prescribed for TRT along with thyroid, cortisol tablets(daily). also, will these topical hair loss treatment works against body testosterone like in libido etc.

Thanks in Advance.

Minoxidil (2xs per day) and Nizoral (once per week) will help to limit the effects of the DHT at the scalp...which at this point will probably only prevent you from losing any more hair, not help you re-grow.

Now some people do see really great results and there have been reports of re-growth with Minoxidil (2xs per day) and Nizoral (once per week), but your chances are slim when your test is high...because as we all know elevated testosterone can lead to elevated DHT. If you are already bald or don't care you prob welcome the DHT, but for those who like their hair they want to limit DHT levels.

The approach that seems to have the best success for re-growth is working on the DHT inside and outside (eg - Propecia and Minoxidil). Even then there is no guarantee that you will re-grow hair. and if you have read this thread you know that there are risks associated with things like propecia.

peace,

-billy

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

@billydidit: Thanks for the reply. No, I am not bad per say. hair loss is high.
So, What dosage for Minoxidil and Nizoral ?
I am told Minoxidil comes in 2%,5%,10% etc. same question with Ketakonazole(sorry If I misspelt it)
Will You Recommend a version better suit for My Test. readings?

TIA+

I use 5% but I may try 10%...i just know that it already irritates my scalp if i use too much at 5% so you will have to test it out for yourself. I also rec that you try the foam, especially if you already have hair. the liquid will not cover all the areas as well as the foam and you can also ude it to style your hair.

try nioxin shampoo and conditioner for every day shampoo/conditionier and nioxin scalp treatment for 2 xs a week treatment.

Most of the stuff on the market for hairloss is crap, Finasteride, Dutseride, Minoxidil ( many different strengths and applications) and Nizoral 2 % are the only things that work. Maybe you are like me as I take 1.25 mg/ fin/day, twice the reccomended dose of Rogaine Foam and use Niz 3 X's a week. I have had amazing results but add in even 100 mg /week of test and I see hair loss and quite a bit of it. I have zero sides form Propecia and have bben on it 15 years

Thanks both of You.
I plan to use 2% mioxidil and Nizral 2% shampoo.
The Problem is, in India there are lot of brands for Minoxidil and availability in liquid, gel, foam, spray etc and I cannot choose which one to buy.

Regarding Minoxidil, Which One will be easier to apply and cover whole scalp - Foam or Gel

Since @billlydidit recommended minoxidil foam, I found "Tugain 2%" from Cipla(has good reputation in India) is available in gel and foam solution. Shall I go for it? :)

below sites contains the other brands available.
Retreat from Segment Care, Minoxidil
MEDLINE INDIA - MINOXIDIL

Here, "NIZRAL" from Johnson&Johnson is available. not Nizoral. I assume both are the same.
Regarding Ketaconazole:
MEDLINE INDIA - KETOCONAZOLE
Ketoconazole brands in India

If You people can recommend Me good brands from the above list(you willing). that will be very helpful.

TIA+

There's 2 minoxidil products that I like.. Perfect Image's 15% is the VERY BEST in my experience.
I review products and their specific ability to prevent hair loss from steroids on my website.
there's a lot garbage out there that I've wasted my $ on.

I didn't have much luck with the Cipla Indian generic in finasteride. I know the product you are talking about, unless its different I'd look elsewhere! just my experience

Re: The big 4 (now 5) for preventing hair loss.

Stem Cell Treatments for Baldness? It Is Not As Far Fetched As It Sounds!

Yale researchers identified stem cells within the skin's fatty layer and showed that molecular signals from these cells were necessary to spur hair growth in mice. Men with male pattern baldness still have stem cells in follicle roots but these stem cells lose the ability to jump-start hair regeneration. Scientists have known that these follicle stem cells need signals from within the skin to grow hair, but the source of those signals has been unclear.

Researchers observed that when hair dies, the layer of fat in the scalp that comprises most of the skin's thickness shrinks. When hair growth begins, the fat layer expands in a process called adipogenesis. They found that a type of stem cell involved in creation of new fat cells -- adipose precursor cells -- was required for hair regeneration in mice. They also found these cells produce molecules called PDGF (platelet derived growth factors), which are necessary to produce hair growth.

Festa E, Fretz J, Berry R, et al. Adipocyte Lineage Cells Contribute to the Skin Stem Cell Niche to Drive Hair Cycling. Cell 2011;146(5):761-71. ScienceDirect - Cell : Adipocyte Lineage Cells Contribute to the Skin Stem Cell Niche to Drive Hair Cycling

In mammalian skin, multiple types of resident cells are required to create a functional tissue and support tissue homeostasis and regeneration. The cells that compose the epithelial stem cell niche for skin homeostasis and regeneration are not well defined. Here, we identify adipose precursor cells within the skin and demonstrate that their dynamic regeneration parallels the activation of skin stem cells. Functional analysis of adipocyte lineage cells in mice with defects in adipogenesis and in transplantation experiments revealed that intradermal adipocyte lineage cells are necessary and sufficient to drive follicular stem cell activation. Furthermore, we implicate PDGF expression by immature adipocyte cells in the regulation of follicular stem cell activity. These data highlight adipogenic cells as skin niche cells that positively regulate skin stem cell activity, and suggest that adipocyte lineage cells may alter epithelial stem cell function clinically.
