From videos I've seen of hunters going toe to toe with deer I'd agree it most likely wouldn't end well.
Always wanted to try using a large rock during bow season. I've missed out on a few does that walked right under the stand and just stood there. Hard to shoot a bow straight down
now if I'd just had about a 30lb rock 
tie a rope to it and it becomes an automatic assault rock
If you could mount the deer, you've got it. If the deer is running... You're fucked.
Now, if the question was do I think @gr8whitetrukker could I may wager a little cash. A different kind of Hunter comes to mind when I look at that big bastards back!
Yeah but alot of hunters ain't ready nor aggressive enough to fight a deere hand to hand. That's why they use guns. I don't wanna fight a deere when it's on its hind legs kicking me down. I'd have to stay behind it. Put my BW on its neck and wrangle it like a calf. Keep the antlers at bay

How bout a wild boar? Dont know about hand to hand but i know a guy that was chased by a boar while working and he killed it with a hammer, had no choice that pig was out to get his ass. Ran as far as he could then turned around and fought for his life.

This is true. It would take a certain kind of man that most average dudes are not. Anything lighter in weight that had claws or hooves you'd want to get on their back and force them down with your weight. Wouldn't want them on their hind legs or flipped on their back. It would be for sure more impressive than hunting with a gun.
On a related note how about that bear attack in The Revenant? That's gotta be one of the most intense animal attacks in a movie ever.

Assuming one can avoid any kicks, what do you guys think the chances are on choking an ostrich? It is a smaller diameter neck but meatier then let's say a goose. Feasible?

I say yes if you circle him as you approach. The flexible neck means it can probably get into position to kick you regardless though. Maybe take out a leg as you go for the neck.
Sounds good in theory, but in theory I could overpower my much smaller cat and force him into the bathtub. In reality I usually end up bleeding and we're talking a much larger, wild animal here. In the end it's probably possible, just a question of how many injuries you're willing to take in the process.
