But im lucky my guy is this 65 year old Japanese guy that does BJ Pen and several other mma fighters and he is..... Well magical i swear, when i leave his office i feel euphoric!!! Like ive been re-charged.
Oh shit!!!! Just realized im a chiropractor shill lol!!

Better watch out before we make a call out thread for your chiropractic schilling :p

You sir are very lucky to be treated by such a doctor. Sounds like you have it made

Ok so Doc had a doctor's appointment today. First time in maybe 3 or 4 years. This new doctor turned out to be amazing. She was very thorough, didn't brush my concerns off like others have, and cares for the patient. First up she did some blood work and a urinalysis. Some numbers alarmed her and she wants me to retest again in 6months but she doesn't know I cycle so the results aren't that surprising once you take that Into account. She checked thyroid, lipids, CBC and metabolic panel along with urinalysis. Here are the results

I spoke to her about getting tested for sleep apnea. My cousin might be able to get me intoa study at Yale and I'd get paid instead of pay for it so she told me to find out and let her know. If I needed her she would take it to the next step and see if I need a sleep study done for which she'd refer me for.

I talked to her about my back issues. She was going to send me in for an X-ray bc my insurance sucks and they have a hard time getting approval from my insurance for MRIs without X-rays first. Anyway she saw the tumor POB saw when I bent over and immediately said this will need an MRI bc an X-ray won't pick it up. She thinks it's a paraspinal muscle issue and nothing too serious but won't know for sure until the MRI. IF, and I mean IF, my insurance approves it, I'm scheduled for an MRI next Saturday for the lumbar and thoracic spine as the tumor is right in the border of both.

I also spoke to her about my elbow issue and shoulder mobility to which she replied she'd refer me to a sports ortho if I wanted as she doesn't specialize in sports treatment.

All in all a productive visit and think I found my new doctor.

Congrats on starting your healing process. As someone who has a chronic condition I know the difference between a doc who cares and listens and one who goes through the motions. Changes everything.

My last doctor blew off my back pain (different than what I'm going through now), blew off my shitty sleep, and would rush me through each visit. She was about the numbers so I dropped her ass. This new one so far is amazing.

Hope everything is ok with you jay

Doing better. I move around a lot, so I change docs a lot. My last time I had a real good one. She wrote down explicit instructions for all future docs so Im ahead of the game.
Besides that back in the gym, eating right. Feeling good.

Also been getting myself ready for this training change. Im going full in PL in September. Im still kind of in my old BB mentality / workout. But Im throwing in DLs, and more squats. Starting from the bottom.

Question Ive been meaning to ask. What is average time for you in the gym while training?

That's great news man. Keep at it and don't settle for a doctor that isn't treating YOU the patient.

More great news! Love hearing stories about ppl seeing the light and embracing PLing hahahaha. If you need anything I'll be more than happy to help where I can and so will several others.

I've neglected myself for a long, long time and fought through injuries rather than taken care of them so a good deal of my time in the gym is spent doing rehab/prehab work, MOB work, etc. These things I do are just to allow me to keep lifting right and take care of the issues.

I'll spend about 30min or so doing MOB work and rehab/prehab shit. By that I mean foam rolling my lower back, glutes, and upper back (sometimes the IT bands). Then I'll use a lacrosse ball on my hams, hips, upper back and scapula, shoulders, lats, lower back, and pec insertion points. Then I do a few different stretches with a PVC pipe for my rotator cuffs and voodoo floss my elbows and knees. Finally I'll use a band to put traction on certain joints to stretch out my hips/groin/pelvis area and shoulders. Actual time spent lifting is about 1.5hrs. Time in the gym total with lifting and everything else is about 2hrs.

You can probably get by with less especially if you don't need all the mob work but figure you'll be spending 1-1.5hrs in there 3-4x a week depending on how you set up your training.

You have any links or anything to specific stretches you do? Ive gotten lazy about stretching all together.

Also Ive seen you recommend some books but I cant seem to find the thread(s)....

After 8 years of basically doing the same thing im really excited to start something new.

Both of those guys are crazy good at doing what they do. I hold them both in get high esteem.

Can't wait brother. Get a lot going, get a good training template going, eat poptarts during your workout, pig out at chipotle after your workout and come join the poweifting brotherhood lmao. Seriously though, you'll still gain size by powerlifting. Example, Im on a cruise dose of test since my meet in. March. Lifted with coach end of May I believe and again mid July when Brutus came with me. In that month or so time span my coach thought I added 30lbs of mass to my frame but also commented how I looked leaner and all the while my lifts went up, strength in general went up, body fat went down a bit, weight remained about the same, and I did this without "training for size". Most people underestimate this kind of training so I'm excited for you and to see what you make of it in the coming months.

Thanks for tagging me @ jaymax. I don't look at the cycle log section often and completely missed that Doc had a log here. Happy to help any way I can. Doc and inh both have a lot of knowledge. I worked out it bb style for over 25 years before switching over to PL so we have some things in common.

Doc not sure how I missed this. Sorry to hear about the injury issues. Sounds like you came up with a good doctor which is huge.

My doctor was a college soccer player and now runs marathons and has served as a team doctor at a major college. He gets it and has seen my through a couple of hernia surgeries, a full distal bicep tendon tear surgery and a couple of arthroscopic knee procedures.

Hopefully she can get you on the right track.

@brutus79 told me you two had worked out together but I didn't know until I read this today it was with a coach and at a great gym or that he hit a PR deadlifting that day. No wonder he is pumped about getting into pl'ing shortly.

I'm in the powerlifting capital of the US and should take more advantage of it than I do.

Doc you are right on about most people not realizing how much size you can gain powerlifting. I'm focused on my national ranking and feel I'm most competitive at 198 so that is where I stay but I'm only averaging about 120 grams of protein per day, upping that to 200 and taking in the added calories I could easily be at 220 without gear and maybe 230-235 with gear.

After I hit 50 and hopefully post a big push/pull total I may add some weight and do some bench only meets as I would like to hit 450+ which would be a decent number for an older lifter.

You can't go wrong with those Yale studies. I've gotten one study done for severe chronic migraines a few years back after my migraines returned after suffering a severe head injury

Welcome to the party MP!

Injuries are what they are man. We all deal with them. I just got to keep my head up And not let it run me down.

Yup, Brutus came with me to my coach's gym and it was a great trip. He learned some shit, hit up the mono/SSBar/bands, and hit a PR.

I'm the same way. I want to stay at 198 for now but my training weight is around 205-210. That's limiting what I eat a bit as I could easily hit 220 with my appetite lol.

450+ is "just ok" for an older guy  Lol. That's a crazy bench for a 198er old or young. I hit a PR triple on squats yesterday and was freaking stoked lol. If the back plays nicely I'll be doing an October meet and hope to set 3 new PRs.

Squat day yesterday:

Squats: x3 @ 405lbs RPE 10, 5% fatigue load drop 2x3 @ 365lbs
Front squats: 3x8 @ 185lbs
RDL's: 2x8 @ 185lbs
Standing abs: 4x10

The 405x3 on squats is a rep PR for that weight. I almost tripled what I maxed at the meet. That's what Coach's training has done in 4 short months!!!!
