Update. I did go in and do paused bench my last session. To keep it quick it was a success as far as a workout. But much harder than I thought on the outside looking in. I have a lot of work to do! Much more to follow when I post this weekend.

Looking forward to the update jay!

I agree with the others and would not change what you are currently doing. My biggest powerlifting mistakes have been trying to cut too much to late in the game to make a certain weight which can lead to all kinds of trouble you don't need.

Regarding your bench I would definitely start working on paused benches as that is what is required in competition and since you have been benching touch n go for many year paused benching may take you a while to get used to.

Masters is in my log!!!!! 'Nuff said

Had the MRIs done today. Got the disc of images but the report will be done by Monday or Tuesday. Did squats today.

Squats: worked up to 415x1, 435x1, 405x1
Front squats: 2x3 @ 275lbs, 185lbs x 8
RDLs: 3x10 @ 225lbs
Adductor machine: 3x15 @ 160lbs
Lat Pulldowns: 3x8 @ 135lbs
Standing abs: 4 sets

Nice! You smoked that 435 I bet. I thought you were in the middle of a deload though?

I am kind of but I spoke with coach today and he doesn't want me maxing out in squats until we know what's going on with my back. Instead, he had me work on form today trying to perfect it with heavy singles RPE ~8. Sent him 3 videos, one for each weight, and the critique was to work more on heavy walkouts to get my foot placement down quicker and more efficiently. Bar speed was pretty good and on the 435 single I came a bit onto my toes but corrected immediately.

How many steps are you currently taking? I practice a two step, a quarter, and then a small adjustment.

I have something like this at my gym

Mine has pegs for the weights on near the horizontal part so I need to take 3-4 steps back to clear them otherwise the 45lb plates hit the pegs when I go my normal depth. Then also tend to shuffle my feet a little getting the right width for my feet.

We got the exact rack at our gym. I dont use that one cause i dont like having to step back when im going heavy, but we have another one the isnt angled like that one. Just lift up, one step back and squat. Feels safer to me.

I'd rather something like the one you have but a monolift would be my number one choice lol. This new gym I signed up for, it's being built now, says they'll have 4 power racks so I can't wait!

My gym has 3 Hammer Strength squat racks with built in crashpads in front for deads. I like them as they are straight and also have adjustable safety bars

Sounds badass and I am sure you go by it every day to check on the progress lol.

Gotcha.

I have one of those at my gym, minus the pegs you have on yours. I only use it when going light on squats because the racking pegs are right in between my preferred bar height. Otherwise the horizontal rack is fine with depth. I use a full caged powerrack when going heavy.

I don't mind it for OHP or deadlifts but it really sucks for squats.

Sure, rub it in you have a power rack.....this guy ^^^^ :p

Yeah i really like the strait vert racks, i feel more confident so i go as heavy as i want without the fear of something going wrong in the step back. DAMN !!! Just talking about this makes me wanna hit the squat rack!!!!

If your gym is open late why not, lol.

I just take one step back and as there's a mirror behind the rack I can see where my feet are going as I step back.

I hate this rack, cause I'm always banging my hands on the rack when going low. hurts my form, cause I got to pay to much attention to the rack and not my form. who ever invented this rack should be bitch slapped and than shot ;)
