I've had that happen too but its a rare occurrence. Usually its someone that doesn't even think to look if someone else is using it.

I don't use wrist wraps or a belt so I have limited items to set on or around the bench but fuck, there's chalk all over the bar, a bag of chalk on the bench and my gym card. They usually tuck tail and run when they realize its my bench.

Speaking of people not making any effort or perhaps just being clueless (this case is clueless)...I was laying back on the bench, hands on the bar, about to get into position when someone to my right asked, "hey, are you using that?" I stared at him for about 20 sec and asked him if he was serious. When all he could do was give me a blank stare back, I immediately started laughing, shaking my head, and telling him what an idiot he was as I got back under the bar.

Lol, you should have told him you were posing for Playgirl magazine and he was interrupting your photo shoot.

You want to talk about clueless? There's this guy at my gym who is always good for some laughs and tonight was no different. After his usually deadlifts with a super rounded back looking like the hunchback of notre dame he picked up a PVC pipe to do curls with....an empty 1in PVC pipe. He did a few sets with it and then, here's the kicker, he proceeds to do what I can only describe as single arm dumbell AIR curls. Why do I call them air curls? Well bc there was nothing in his hands as he did a curl movement. Absolutely nothing. He just did the curl motion with nothing in his hands lol. I think he was trying for that mind muscle connection or whatever ppl call it. I ended up dropping a 60lb DB on my toes and got reprimanded for shouting out FUCKKKKKKKKKKK but it was worth the laughs hahaha

PVC pipe curls to air curls?? WTF, lol. Would be icing on the cake if he was using the squat rack for this.

Have you ever seen people at your gym doing the steering wheel exercise? The one where they grab a 25lb plate, hold it out in front of them, and turn it left and right. That has to be one of the most ridiculous "exercises" I've seen a man do.

I wish but he was doing it in front of the mirror lol.

Yes I've seen them do it at my gym as well. Some of them even do it on those bosou ball things to "hammer the core" hahaha

Didn't you know? The mirror is for max gains, bro! haha

Fuck..haven't seen the integration of the bosou ball...yet...

I really want to take a dumbell and throw it into the mirror. A handful of guys spend more time posing for the mirror than they do lifting. Thankfully I've yet to see a female do that yet

How about the skinny young kids that walk by, sometime right over your deadlift bar, and lift their shirts up to check out their abs in the mirror, while almost bumping into you? Those guys are the best and I make sure I tell them that I think so. :D

One day I had the loaded bar on the ground to do either deadlifts or Pendlay rows and this kid kept walking by to get to the mirror to check his "guns". He must have made like 8 trips or so. So I began setting up for the next set and he stepped right over the bar when there was ~15ft of clear space on either side of me. So while resting in between sets I saw he was about to do it again so I stuck my foot out in his way. He almost tripped and started talking shit. I told him he now felt how I felt when he stepped over the bar during my setup and ruined it, turned my back to him, and continued to ignore his BS rant. He ended up going to the management who came to have a chat with me. After explaining the situation they realized he too had fucked up so they told him next time he did that to expect the same thing from me :D

Smh...

That's a pretty mild response to these idiots all things considered. In some parts of the world and in certain training circles walking over the bar is considered extremely disrespectful and can get someone kicked out of the gym / training hall. Russian weightlifters never do it, some kind of superstition and deep level of respect for the bar. The bar is your partner after all.

I never step over a barbell. I will always walk around it. Idk why I do it like that but I've done it for as long as I can remember.

Bosu balls...don't even get me started there lol. There's crossfit types at my gym who do db curls while balanced on the bosu ball

If I had my own gym is be yelling at ppl for that. After you're done you rack the weights and lean the bar up against the wall or put it in a stand or I'll cancel the membership lmao
I'd have done the same, lol.

Ohh yes I've called out people who've left barbells on the floor after doing deads ;)

Dont ya just hate disrespectful punks ? And they are everywhere ! The lil assholes wait until you get up from the benchpress then they take all my plates off so they can bench their 135lbs ....sometimes they actually put 2 plates on and grunt one rep w/ 225lbs ! lol

I told this kid last year if your gonna share the bench with me you gotta lift big , cause I aint spending the rest of my day reloading plates ...he just walked away . lol

Yes I hate when you step away to refill your water bottle or soemthing and they take your equipment thinking you're done. Motherfucker if I was done I would have racked all my weights like any sane person would do.

I actually don't mind if someone works in with me and they lift a lot less or more for that matter. I've spent a few days last few weeks training with this girl from my gym and she's benching 95lbs and squatting 135lbs and I could care less about swapping plates. If you're passionate about your lifting, you do it RIGHT as in fukk depth squats and no half benches etc, I'll work with you. If you want to do 225lb knee bends then fuck off and wait till I'm done lol

I dont mind helping beginners , but if I set you up w/ a lifting plan you gotta stick to it , dont be adding in sets & reps you saw that Kai does or missing workout days.... Stick to my plan and you will see results . But you might not like the work involved ....

I agree. If you are taking the time to set up a program it should be respected and followed to the letter and not wimping out by skipping days.

Guys (that arent that serious) dont wanna squat . They will miss days , think of excuses , fake injuries so they dont have to squat .

Well , especially in the beginning as a beginner , I think you need to squat . Nothing else releases GH quite like squats (and deadlifts) and causes the fight or flight response in the body quite like squats . Once you have properly developed those squatting muscles I think you can maintain the size w/ other leg exercises like leg presses and Hacksquats (my fav) but beginners need the squat foundation first .

Well said. Leg day may not appeal to some people but the way to get big is to embrace leg day
