Meso Powerlifting Corner

Good / bad news my fellow lifters. I told y'all a little over a week ago I had been out of the gym having stomach problems (I thought). After a bunch of tests I found out I have 3 hernias in my abdomen (sheiko did me in). 2 small, one not so small.

I saw the surgeon today. He recommended surgery but told me to sleep on it. But I think Im going to give in and do it. So I should be back in it in no time.

Also, I hate to admit it. But I started going back to the gym last week after looking in the mirror and missing my mass. But Ive been doing traditional BB workouts since I cant lift heavy.

Anyone else had hernia surgery? How long was recovery? Im still hoping to be able to compete in September, though that maybe slipping away.
I hate to hear this man. I have no personal experience with hernias but a few of my friends have had them in the past few years, all who lift, but the hernias weren't actually caused by lifting. I'd get the surgery. I don't think he down time will be bad and afaik once you get it fixed it's fixed for good right? I'm sure your doing your research but that's just my 2¢. May further injuries avoid us all.

An older guy at my gym was telling me about his hernia surgery not long ago. They put some kind of mesh in that made him hernia proof he said.

Worked with a guy that got the mesh and they said the same thing but playing hockey he tore it and had to get it replaced I don't know if there were other factors involved but it can happen apparently.

Holy fuck that sounds bad, I just imagine tearing a wire mesh and all those Sharp little edges...

Had another DL sesh today. Just wondering if I'm doing anything wrong on my setup? I tightened up my arm placement, which allowed me 2 extra reps with 405. (Could only do 3 before) so that's awesome. But yeah.. check it out:

Nevermind my fat ass side view. I'm working on it bros.

Hips come up early causing your knees to lock out too soon. Not bad though, just a little something to work on. Focus on setting that back angle and staying tight when you initiate the pull. Your back breaks the bar from the floor, but then just maintains its angle until your legs get it to your knees, then you lock your knees and your back and glutes finish the pull. If you don't keep tight your hips come up and knees lock out too soon and your back does 100% of the work. Not what you want.

I see what you're saying... I was trying to figure out what u meant but I think I got it.. basically, everything has to happen simultaneously, so it doesn't turn in to a SLDL half way up. I see where my knees lock before my back is straightened. Is that what u mean?

Yes, that's what I meant. There's a lot that needs to happen simultaneously, but it's kind of like three distinct segments. Breaking the weight from the floor, bringing the bar from that point to your knees and from there to lockout. They need to happen so smoothly it looks like one motion though. I hope that makes sense. You need to be tight when you pull, imagine your back angle as rigid and unchangeable from when you grab the bar until your back takes over to complete the lift at the knees.

Thanks man. Imma screen shot this and read it for next DL sesh, so I can focus on it. Getting better every day lol

Hips up too much at the start, especially on first rep... Maybe need to 'take the strain" a little more with your torso before you start the lift proper.
Not terrible, by any means. Try to make sure it's as near your legs as you can, and raise it as near to vertical as possible. I do (in the space of a few miliseconds) take the strain, rock back a tiny bit, stand up.

For anyone that doesn't follow my log, I pulled 565x3 on Tuesday after three weeks off of deadlift for an injury. Then injured myself again on a back off set of 510x3. Really sucks as deadlift had just started improving again.
