Nice looking trap bar. That attachment for bench is nice as well.
Thanks. It's a direct copy of the rogue adjustable monolifts. My boss eyeballed the dimensions and drew up some rough plans and it worked out perfectly. We've got two sets, one for the bench and one for the rack we squat from. We've also got a steel log with the grips inside of it that we built for strongman style training. With the grips being vertical I really enjoy doing overhead work with it.

Do you guys plan on selling your work?

It's been considered but I doubt it. It's not really the line of work we deal with now and if we did want to do something similar on the side or as a new business we'd probably run into some legal trouble with rogue since everything we've built looks oddly similar to their stuff haha. We just do it for the personal gym.

I think you would be fine if you did it on a small scale and the dimensions weren't exactly the same. A guy out of New York has build a pretty good business making bars and equipment himself. Blackwidowtg dot com.

Yes. Farmers carry handles. They are well made. I'm pretty sure I got something else as well but I can't remember what. I think that means I've bought too many powerlifting accessories over the years.

I bought a prowler from black widow as well. I knew there was something else. Had to go to the site and figure it out.

Fuck me, now I want to order a front squat bar from him.

To the outside or inside? I guess it would just be easier to estimate how far apart your hands are, I know the knurling on the bars at my gym are different bar to bar. Basically my grip is maybe just a hair wider than shoulder width. I also have long arms. Super wide puts WAYYY too much stress on my shoulders. But ultimately if your legit close grip bench is much stronger than a shoulder width or wider, I'd say eventually your gonna have to work on something or it's gonna become a limiting factor in powerlifting. Besides that it would look super strange to bench close grip in a comp or something. Unless you won, then everyone would just think you were showing off haha

The few "serious" powerlifters I know all bench narrow. They say its the proper/safest way. Is that incorrect?

Incorrect the safest was would be your most anatomical way which is not narrow grip as that puts increased stress on the front delt and triceps. When your arms are perpendicular to the floor as the bar touches your xphoid process that is the safest positioning and most powerful but possibly not the position they would push the most weight as said by jay reducing the ROM with a wider grip may allow you to push more

Dead on

@ronin17 Rodger is correct but I'm guessing those you know who have told you that are as well as they are saying the same thing in different ways. I bench with my pinkies just touching the rings which is a position that puts my arms in a very similar position to what Rodger is describing.

Since in powerlifting you are allowed to go as wide as you want as long as you have at least one finger touching the rings my grip is considered somewhat narrow because I could essentially go a full hand wider on each side than I do. I've benched 400+ in competition at 194. Not the biggest bench in the world but solid for any age.

I've seen lots of other big benchers with a similar grip width as I have. Some a bit narrower at just inside the rings, some a bit wider with their second finger on the rings.

Wider is better seems to apply in two cases. One when using a bench shirt the grips seem to be wider and two when someone has a really big arch a wide grip seems to be effective as the play for these folks is clearly to minimize range of motion. This tends to happen more with females than males as the ladies have a much greater ability to get a huge arch.

@Mc15 I put my hands where it makes my forearms perpendicular to the bar at the bottom of the lift.

@ronin17 this quote would be the best way to minimize any pain or injury.

I can push more with a lightly narrower grip but I feel the stress in my shoulders and definitely can feel my triceps doing working really hard. I look at the mirror behind when I set up while before a rep with the bar to see where my forearms are perpendicular to the bar at the bottom of the lift.
