Meso Powerlifting Corner

Holy shit, he's back.

Been mostly good for me. I managed to snag a few state records last year. Been dealing with an injury that's prevented me from doing deadlifts much for about six months though. How's it going with you?

Glad to hear you are doing well brother. So what's this injury you are talking about? Is it improving? I have been ok, just busy. Had a career change, and some relationship matters that have been keeping me occupied. Training has been so so. Very hit or miss. Most of my strength is still there. I played around a bit this past weekend in the gym, just to see where im at. I am still trying to figure out how to upload a video. lol. Every time I try, it just keeps showing that its uploading. I'm still not the most computer friendly person.

I think usually the best way to put videos up is just to upload them to youtube first and copy and past it here.

I've been told it's a rotator cuff thing. I was pulling sumo with shoulders rolled forward a little and got some major pain around the back of my armpit. It doesn't affect strength, but it's excruciating. It first popped up last summer, took a few weeks off, hurt it again the first day back, took two months off leading into my last meet and did box squats and good mornings and still managed to PR on meet day. After the meet i took ten weeks off and hurt it again the first day back and now I've been off about two months again. Gonna try again the first of next month. Light for sure and maybe conventional for awhile.

Fun random question...do you'll put the plates facing in or out? Seems like every i see likes them in put i always put them out.images-1.jpeg

I used to get that bad inner thigh burn when I first started sumo. It takes getting used to.

I tore might right groin over a decade ago. It used to be when I did sumo as assistance for a training cycle it would start to get tender about 5 or 6 weeks in when I was working in the mid 450 range. The other day I tweaked it on the third set at 315. My body is trying to tell me something!

It's telling you no more sumo. ;) LOL.

Can you actually pull more sumo?

Do you pull with a deadlift bar?

My gym doesn't have one. I only get to use one at meets at the moment.

No my form was never good enough and my body wouldn't hold up pulling sumo. I think 525 was the most I ever pulled sumo.

I do think there is some value in using it as assistance work for a conventional deadlifter but not at this stage for me. The risks outweigh the rewards.

Absolutely! When 315 fucks with you it is time to wave the white flag.
I'm experiencing some discomfort in piriformous. I do lots of mobility work. But it seems like it's an issue from when I tweaked my hamstring. Gonna see my PT gets a neuromuscular massage and continue to stretch and foam roll. The joys of getting older. Lol.
