Meso Powerlifting Corner

Tried running Sumo this way today.
Felt surprisingly good.

I'll be experimenting with the more narrow stance in the coming weeks.

I'm a conventional DL guy, but the workout today felt great and I could really feel it in my glutes.
A good way to progress sumo is to start with a more narrow stance and slowly work your way out over the course of several months
I always do
But if I'm being honest.
I sort of just paid lip service to Sumo, never really tried to push the numbers.

I need to work on my hip mobility a bit then I think I'll start actively shooting for Sumo PRs lol
don’t forget the adductor stuff while you’re at it. Ive started having some pretty serious issues there when my sumo started catching up with conventional

Solid advice.

I still have a long way to go for abductor work.

Thanks brother

I’m starting to feel like the only person in the world that can’t bench 3 plates.

Jesus, I’ll prob squat / pull 700+ before I hit 300 lmao.

I’m right there with you man. I’d previously hit 315x2 but had issues with keeping my ass down. So I’d revamped my form and been mostly working with weight below 92%. Hit 308 at my meet 5 months ago. Tried it for a single yesterday and may or may not have got it if there was side judging. I’m closing in on a 500 squat and a 550 dL but struggling to make a true 315 bench. It blows. Just go to a USAPL meet and watch the Bench portion. You’ll feel much better about yourself, lol

No kidding. I got asked to do a local usapl meet a few years ago right after my first cycle. I was considering doing it since I technically wasn't on. I ended up not doing it but looked at the results to see the competition afterwards. I would've had the highest overall total and I'm not even close to a heavyweight. Lol

Man...
Eddie is so ridiculous, I love it.

Hes set for life from the bet he made on the 500kg DL, so now he just has a load of fun.

Still the BEAST, has anyone broken his axle press record?
I don’t believe they have...and the crazy part about that record is that it was pretty much a strict press. Absolutely insane.

New 242lb all time world record pull. He's gonna be the lightest man to pull 1000lbs. I was looking at the records and 1000+ has only actually been done once in an actual powerlifting meet.

Here's the top deadlifts of all time across all feds and weight classes.

Magnusson weighed 381lbs, Browner 239lbs, and Belkin 227lbs.

It went up scary fast too
Looked like he had some left in the tank

Was crazy because he had just set the WR on his 3rd lift.
But said "Fuck it, I'm beating my own world record"

He almost certainly had 1000lbs in him that day. He could probably give 1100lbs on an elephant bar using straps a good run.

Heres a question about that.

Now, even Eddie hall pulls less on an elephant than he pulls PL bar.
Because Eddie is pretty explosive (In terms of strongman)

I thought Elephant was hard for faster and explosive guys like Eddie or Jamal.

That's why Hafthor is the Elephant bar king, hes a slower lifter out of the pocket, so he doesnt get the whip.

I'm pretty sure at Jamals speed, that bar would be flopping around like a fucking Tuna lol.

Am I kind of on base here?

I hadn’t thought of it quite like that. Browner smoked that.

Cailer Woolam isn’t far behind he’s walking around at 210. I think if he bumped a weight class he’d give Belkin and Browner serious problems. Even in the 220’s he may still give that number a run

Eddie pulled more on a regular bar? A deadlift bar is pretty whippy though. Even with his speed with the bar leaving the floor he's pulling the slack out first, although he's doing quickly. But I've never used an elephant bar, so I don't have the experience to give much of an opinion.
