Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

216lbs

Comp squat 410x2, 445x2, 480x1, 410x2, 410x2, 410x2, 410x2, 410x2

Sumo block pull 585x1, 635x1, 635x1

5 count paused squats 320lbs for 5x3

Chest supported row 3x15

Hamstring curls 3x15

480lbs was supposed to be a double. 445x2 was an RPE 8 and I thought I would've had it. Then 480x1 was 9.5 and I just racked it. Work has been killer this week, 11 hour day yesterday and today was rough, too. Plus cutting weight, so really shouldn't be surprised.

Still not a bad day at the office by any means dude

215lbs

Comp bench 285lbs for 5x5

Beltless high bar squat 365lbs for 3x5

Overhead press 150lbs for 3x8

Chin ups 3x15

Adductors and abductors with bands 3x20

Probably about done with this cut as I don't really want to go much under 215lbs. Been eating 3700 calories a day the last few weeks, so will finish out the month with that and then go back to low 4000's for maintenance for awhile after.

Looking to do a meet in maybe 6-8 months depending on how training goes. Will run a 3-4 month blast for the meet prep and bulk for that.

215lbs

Sumo speed deadlifts 405lbs + 150ish in bands (my buddy and I estimated 75lbs each side by locking out just the bands and picking up plates to compare) 15x1

Slingshot bench 315lbs for 5x5

Beltless high handle trap bar deadlift 485x5, 575x5, 625x3 (hands are wrecked and decided to be a pussy and stop there)

Experimented with some belt squats to finish.

Got my income tax back and I'm kind of considering buying a safety squat bar. The only two specialty bars my gym has are a buffalo bar and a trap bar at the moment. My inner ego lifter wants a Texas Deadlift bar, but I think an SSB would be a better investment for possible carryover to both squat and deadlift.

Opinions on if it's worthwhile to have access to one?

Yes 100% worth it if you got spending cash got one to use too and it’s awesome especially if you’re having any shoulder or elbow or wrist issues cause you can still squat anytime during injury to not make it work and it’s great for rocketing out of the whole in the comp squat because of how much more everyone sinks a SSB

Was looking at the EliteFTS one. Seems almost unanimous it's the best choice.

I've used the Elitefts SSB. Great bar. Padding is pretty thick. Makes the bar sit pretty high on your traps. For me it tends to cause some lower back pain. So I avoid it. Now a Duffalo bar IMO is gold. You can still keep a competition style squat while saving elbows and shoulders.

The way I've used the SSB is for box squats. Love it for box squats. I wouldn't dare use any other bar for box squats.

We have a buffalo bar. Not the Duffalo bar, but a decent one.

Cool. Get the SSB from Elitefts. Regular collars won't stay on the SSB. The sleeves are kind of slick. Lock jaw collars slide right off. Competition collars and some ugly neon orange and neon green things work from what I have used .

Just was reading that on the website. My gym has a few of the screw on type collars, so should be good if I get it.
