Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

My real dad had the same kind of surgery. He had too much other stuff wrong though. Emphysema, COPD, lung cancer, congestive heart failure. They said he'd had a heart attack at some point years before that he never even went to the hospital over. Spend time with yours while you can, wish I'd spent more with mine while he was alive. We're on our way to visit my stepdad for a few minutes now.

Sorry to hear that bro - a good friend of mine who'se dad retired around 50 with amazing finances, not due to health issues at all, ended up passing away from all these weird issues that popped up within the first year of him being retired. Had checkups and everything was fine prior but after going so hard for so many years then basically doing nothing, somehow his body just caved in. It definitely made me start thinking differently.

From the sounds of it there's just recovery now for your stepdad and it's up from here. Good luck with the visit!

You guys are makin me all emotional and stuff
Lol

Honestly, putting aside work, hobbies and other things we focus on daily, it's always good to be quiet and listen to things that are going on around us. I find it's so easy to get caught up in today, this week or next week to really sit down and realize what's important and what may be passing us by. Realizing you may only have limited time with certain people or important things you've put off or started to neglect is a healthy thing instead of being seemingly blind sided and living regretfully.

Was lying in bed last night thinking about today's workout and thought maybe conventional wouldn't hurt my back as much. So dropped training max from 685lbs to 600lbs and did conventional today. No pain whatsoever, although felt weird after not doing it in forever and strangely heavy for how light the weights were.

My dad, 66, went in for a quintuple (5) bypass a few years ago and they had to remove an artery from his leg for it. He was blocked up horribly and was at serious risk of death basically. I've never seen him cry, ever, but after that surgery he kept weeping and turns out the drugs they put you on afterwards can have that side effect LOL. He has a good laugh about it now but wow it's some serious surgery.

Unfortunately he's getting there again because he refuses to do anything about his diet and is just ballooning up since retiring and sitting around. He's always been stubborn and won't listen so it gets really frustrating.

I'm really, really glad it was successful man as things don't always turn out that way.
Sounds like my mom. Its hard to see people we care about just not give a shit and allow themselves to slip deeper down the shitter.

Maybe it’s a personal thing but conventional is much harder on my low back. Had several bad hernias S5/L5. Conventional beats up my low back pretty good. Sumo keeps the pressure off it for the most part.

No, I agree with that and conventional definitely beats up my lower back more. My chiropractor said the other day this pain might be a hip thing and I was thinking sumo lockout was more hip.

I totally agree and it's really hard to watch. I also have some in my distant and also extended family that are the same. They seem to either not care or just don't take it serious at all and it's obvious. The older they become, the worse it gets.

I also really hate seeing people, sometimes really young, who have become addicts, alcoholics or were just dealt a really shitty hand in life. Watching them spiral down a dark road and shut everyone out and seemingly not care gets to me.

Writing this reminds me of a guy I know. His dad died in a motorcycle accident one year ago. His mom just died of an overdose beginning of December. One of his best friends around Christmas found out his wife was having an affair on him and she left him, somehow won custody of their kids and he ended up committing suicide. (His friend, not him).

Did some stretching after work. Also bought a 200lb resistance band and tried hanging upside down from it today. Also figured out an easy way to get into position. Tie the band on the Smith machine, set the bar low to get it around your waist, then raise it up high before hanging from it.

Based off your numbers you're definitely lifting much heavier than me with your compounds lifts. Just wondering, when you're lifting as heavy as you do, have you noticed a need to up your cardio throughout the week in order to have the stamina to continuously progress on your heaviest lifts? Notice any difference or benefit from more or less cardio in regards to powerlifting?

Honestly before I did my post meet cut last year starting late October I'd done basically zero cardio in several years. Before that the last time I did cardio regularly was 2016. I've worked pretty physical jobs in that time though. Not as good as doing actual cardio I'm sure, but must help somewhat. I do feel better in the gym when I am doing cardio, less out of breath after heavy sets. Just have to find a balance of not doing too much cardio to recover from lifting.

As far as maximal strength goes I'd say it probably doesn't matter a lot. For health reasons cardio is a good idea though.

Good info.

And I'm with you there. I remember around 10 years ago I was doing IT consulting where I was really just doing a lot of sitting and ended up having spare time certain days of the week. A friend of mine needed help in one of his warehouses for a bit and wondered if I could help him get freight ready for shipment. It was not a heavy lifting job but everything needed to be done quickly so my heart was racing just rushing to get done day to day. Helped him out for a few months and just from that I noticed a huge improvement as far as stamina goes.

Especially with your job I wouldn't doubt you're getting a decent amount of cardio in. I would never go back to a desk job or where I'm just lounging around ever again even just for health reasons.

@KL8209

We did a meet with a handful of Meso members at that time and ran a joint log, can't find the post where I started the tren, but it would've been somewhere around here:

Then after that meet I bumped up the tren dose and bulked a few weeks. It was right around here in this log:

204lbs this morning

Bench felt pretty good and deadlift felt pretty good till the last set. Almost blacked out on that second single for some reason. Kinda sagged a bit and rotated the weight out and didn't lock it out. Been doing right hand underhand lately instead of vice versa and might've thrown me off. Also took some Cialis preworkout today for the first time in awhile, might've been a weird blood pressure drop due to vasodilation. I don't know. First time doing any kind of heavy weight on deadlift in awhile too. Strength and getting used to heavy weight will come back.

Top sets of board press at 375lbs and block pulls at 655lbs.
