Race to a 700lb Deadlift

It's been a goal of mine already, got the idea for this last night from discussing it in the powerlifting thread. Here's the rules:

Bodyweight doesn't matter
You can't already have pulled 700lbs
Clothing and shoes can be whatever
No straps
No deadlift suit
Belt is allowed
Sumo or conventional is allowed
Must have video with plates clearly visible
If you can't keep your face out of it share the video privately with a couple other participants for them to vouch that it happened

Anything I forgot feel free to bring up. Just a friendly competition. Winner just gets bragging rights, but I guess you get that anyway pulling 700lbs.

Best deadlift for me so far is 606lbs. I'm expecting a year at least to pull 700lbs, but who knows?

@Brandaddy I know you want in since it was us talking that brought this about.
@theprodgicalson I know you're down, too.
@acoll83 I haven't seen you around lately, but I know 700lbs is in sight for you.

Of course anyone can get in on this. It's going to be a pretty longterm competition most likely, but I wanted to get it going now.

i am in. hopeful that come July this will be a reality. best DL is 620, although that was 2-3 weeks post meet. i beleive this is achievable for me this year as i had 647 to my knees at the meet. might not be at nationals but you never know.

Yeah, we never know. I don't think it's realistic for me next year since I'm off deadlift for an injury now and I'm just running the one cycle next year for the meet, probably will start the next one towards the end of the year into next year depending on what meet I'm doing. I'd say not this next cycle, but the one after I'll get it.

Does this have to be a meet deadlift? It's possibly unrealistic for myself but I've pulled 565 on two separate occasions so I'm in just don't expect me to be there within a year I'm probably 2year to a lifetime away from it at my weight

Doesn't have to be, no. Can be a gym lift. Mine almost certainly will be since i almost never max outside of meets.

I'm down for this probably can't start pulling again til January. I was right at six before I got hurt but I know there is potential for more there.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. I haven't pulled a deadlift in over a month and will be taking at least another month to let this injury heal.

What are you doing in the meantime to maintain your pull? I'm doing banded good mornings, squats, hamstring and quad work, upper back and trap work, although this injury prevents doing rows right now, too.

Mine could possibly be at a meet too if it happens. Hoping for it during 2018 nationals that's the dream.

Because of my injury I've been 50% weight bearing on crutches the last seven weeks. I'm not aloud to do any lower body exercises. Mainly pulldowns, rows, pull ups, pull ups, and more pull ups.

I'm in, Brother. But I'm way, way behind target!

On a side note I atleast got some positive out of the negative. Not being able to use my lower body has really helped my bench. I've switched to all pause reps for the last six weeks. Not being able to drive my legs into the floor has made me really focus on the other aspect of my bench. Was able to pause 405 yesterday with no leg drive. I'm real happy with that.

Yeah, not doing deadlift is really helping my squat right now. Hopefully that helps my deadlift once i can do it again.

I'm going to bench 405 for sure next year. Was a goal this year, but cutting to 198 messed that up.

Did the smolov routine for squats last year it was brutal squatting 4 times a week but I made great gains from it.

I've looked at that routine for years and haven't tried it. Would have been a good fit for now if i wasn't giving my body a little break before next meet prep. Did you lose much after the routine ended? I heard it's just like peaking for a meet.

Yeh reason I did it was I got a prp shot in my elbow and was trying to let it heal. I hit 640 to a 16 inch box at the end of it. I got 610 in a comp later on in the year. It's definitely geared towards peaking for a competition. There is no way to keep doing all that volume. I did wear single ply power brief on some days of training.

Do you compete in gear or raw?
