Rob's log part 2 (gonna take a crack at PLing)

Wife just went to the store and I texted her to grab an apple pie. Now that was a useful post brother. Good thinking

Are you wearing a belt yet? Do they have a squat safety bar at your gym?
I wear my belt for anything over 315. Up to 315 I'm comfortable squatting but after that I put the belt on. Deadlifts on the other hand I'll go up too 455 maybe 495 if I'm feeling froggy.

Not sure what a squat safety bar is so I am assuming no we don't have one.

Don't feel bad, I've never seen one in real life either.

Seems like an awful lot puss pads going on in one place lmao. There is one dude that has a few things similar. One that looks like that minus the pads (he uses it because his shoulders are bad and can't hold the bar traditionally. Then he has a front squat one that's kinda cool

I wouldn't mind using one or a buffalo bar because I do get achy in the elbows and shoulders. I think a buffalo bar would be better for me though because the safety squat seems like it'd be too much like a high bar or front squat and those always bother my right knee.

I'm a low squatter too. So it would most likely mess with my lift a little. The buffalo bar sounds interesting though.

Pretty much just a slightly bent bar. My gym doesn't have any of that stuff anyway. Only specialty bars they have are a cambered bar and one of those strongman axle bars.

I'd like to have a buffalo bar, Swiss bar and Texas deadlift bar if I could choose one for each lift.

I dont know what any of this stuff is. I feel like a PLing retard.

Buffalo bar

Takes pressure of elbows and shoulders. Good for people with bad shoulder mobility like me.

Swiss bar

Allows you to bench with a neutral grip, easier on the shoulders and works triceps more.

Texas deadlift bar looks like a regular bar, but the diameter is a little smaller and it's a little longer, so when you pull heavy you get more whip.

Those pads are there for good reason. The besides being much more uncomfortable than an olympic bar lol, the pads allow the bar to rest higher up on your back. It produces a greater torque bc if this lengthen lever arm. During the lift the bar will want to drive your chest down and round your upper back. You've got to actively fight it to remain upright and complete the lift without folding. Bc almost all raw lifters miss a squat just above parallel due to their chest caving and upper back rounding this is attacking a weak point on your competition back squat. Bc you can't lift as much on it either it can help vary your loading and intensity in squat training. Finally it can really help your shoulders since they're not having to be pinched back supporting the bar. I love the SBB. I fuckimg HATE the buffalo bar lol bc I suck at it and squatting with it is difficult. Both are good bars though.

Thanks. The gym I was at for the last 2 weeks had a swiss bar. I didnt know wtf it was.

I might actually use a squat safety bar...if the gym was completely empty

I should add that you shouldn't change the bar now either. Your maxes were tested on a normal olympic bar and that's what your percentages are based off. If you change bars it will likely also have a different max, probably lower for all other bars, which means you'll be using too much weight for every rep and set. If you want to use another type of bar test your max with it before beginning a block if training.

I'm sure they serve a good purpose. I was just being an ass lol. I can see where they would really come in handy though. Always good to have you around to explain these things for us doc

I won't be changing anything. I'm sticking this through until it's done or I break.

Brutus and I were able to use the SSB at my coach's gym. I think Brutus' gym has one too. It legit wants to bend you over like a slut lol. The next day my entire back was sore as fuck bc if the extra work it put it.

So is the SSB all one part or is it an accessory? The only thing I've seen is an attachment to a normal bar. It doesn't sound like I will be using a SSB anytime soon if it adds stress to the back

It's one bar. Not an accessory to add onto a bar although it might be. Just haven't seen it.

It's upper back mainly not so much lower back. That's where I felt it the most.

The one a guy at my gym was an attachment. Same general concept overall he just uses it because his shoulders don't go back that far these days
