Strongman Thread

Day 24 / session 6.

Life got in the way, again. Work is awful at the moment and it's spilling over into life.

Squats 3x5x125kg. All good, especially second set. I remembered how to brace even harder during descent. Smooth.

Bench 3x5x90kg. Feels like a real weight. Form still not locked in. Strength is there.

Deads, hook, 3x5x150kg. Easier than I expected it to be. Looking forward to the weight increasing.

Overall pissed off that there's been such a gap, but pleased to get there today in difficult circumstances. Back in Friday. Ribs fine.

So... Europe's Strongest Man 2018 was yesterday.

Look away now if you don't want to know the result!

.

..

. ..

Thor won it again, easily.
His static strength is off the hook now, and I am sure he is going to win WSM2018 in a few short weeks.

Nobody broke the world record on the log clean and press, Eddie was close. Thor didn't try for it, sensibly going for just enough points to help him towards the overall win. Clever Thor.

Kielskowski showed himself to be a serious competitor once again, and he is a future WSM winner for me.

But, til 2020 at least... We are in the era of Thor.

Boys... Many days have elapsed. Much shit has occurred including wife being sacked for BS reason.

Ribs have been very sore... But...

Did "crossfit total" today

Squat 220kg pleased
Strict OHP 80kg, shit.
Deadlift 225kg mediocre.

525kg total, advanced. Lol

Folks... The above workout ripped my rib again. Right back to square 1. But I had 5 weeks off gym and am doing OK once more... Albeit embarrassingly weak.

Safety squat bar squats, 3x5x100kg... Couldn't believe how hard this was, and my legs are still sore now from Friday!
OHP up to 80kg, fail 82.5kg.

Ribs... Know I've trained, but they aren't wrecked

SSB 2x5x90kg and 3x5x110kg

14" log 2 at 55kg, multiple fails at 82kg. I've lost a lot of strength. Sadly.

SSB 3x5x150kg
8, 8, 12 x 55kg Pendlay rows

Getting back into it now.

Also hopped on ... 500 each a week TC and EQ, plus some var for first 4 weeks...

5,5,4x160kg SSB. Failed the 5th rep of third set, fucked. It felt so heavy....

3x5x125 deadlift.

Ribs know I've trained, but I think I'm OK.

Did 1 rep maxes of the big 3 today.

Squat, 200kg, failed 220.
Bench 120kg, failed 130.
Dead 225kg, failed 235.

Overall, fairly happy, as I've got reasonably close to my lifetime maxes there - and the injury hasn't returned. Ribs know I've trained, but haven't gone pop and aren't much more sore than they were.

How's the OHP? My ribs feel it from log pressing... There muscles all across the midsection get sore.

Haven't done it for a couple of weeks - it was shit, like 80kg max and definitely caused rib pain, but no damage as far as I could tell. I'll press Wednesday and let you know!

Session was horrific today, but I got er done.

3x5x155 high bar back squat
3x5x95 bench
3x5x165 deadlift.

Put hands a bit further apart on deads and also managed to wear belt... High, and it supported my fucked ribs really well.

Pleased.

Sessions this hard are the ones that really count.

Where's everybody at?

The strongman comp I planned on competing in this year got cancelled, and I missed the few other ones that were in a feasible distance for me to attend due to waiting on the cancelled competition.

So now just enjoying training as if I had a competition to do but without the stress of actually having one.

I've been working with log clean and press a lot. It's such a good movement for a show of strength.

Goal is by end of year or so to have a 300lb log clean and press. Recently hit 265 fairly easy in training, so I don't think it's too far off .

Sometimes the training is the best part anyway!

Curious as to what I can OHP with a log.. Ive never trained on one. My barbell OHP is 245 at 190 lbs so curious as to the carryover.
