Strongman Thread

So...
I had heard about a big comp coming up around the time I finished my last competition.

I had it on my mind towards the end of December / start of January.

But some things came up and what not, and no info was available about the competition so it kind of fell off my radar.

Fast forward to yesterday and I received some info. Comp day is <EDIT>, and I have all the details for the events and weights.

Ive been training of course but just not as event specific , so I've got a little over four weeks to prep and peak.

I'd start a log but honestly I think I'll just update here.

I'll try to get all the events and weights posted up here soon, then I'll give some details on how I'm training.
Good luck!! Kill it bro!

Good luck!! Kill it bro!

I'm not gonna make this meet guys. There were several factors that played into my decision, but lack of preparedness was definitely NOT one of them. I'm training my ass off, and making some big jumps in all my lifts.

The goal as of right now is to catch a powerlifting meet that's coming up. I'm a lot more certain on this than the strongman comp, but I've got a lot going on outside of training and competing so I don't want to jump the gun and say I'm def competing and then something come up.

I hate that I've done that this time. I've never been one to claim I'll do something and then not, and for that I apologise.

You'll be even MORE prepared for the next one... Good luck at the powerlifting meet big guy.

So how about Thor winning Arnold? I think this is gonna be the start of a long reign for him. I've been saying his age was gonna play to his favor. He's setting records and theoretically isn't gonna hit his prime for another 4-5 years. Really looking forward to wsm this year between him and Shaw . I feel last year was a fluke and Eddie is out of the picture from here on .

My buddy was there and sent me video of his deadlift. Really kind of kicking myself for not going. Dude is an absolute monster. im with you, i relaly think he will be reigning king for years time come.

Man I'd kill to go. Money wouldn't be the issue but it's a long trip for me.

its definitely in "my neck of the woods" and is not a far drive for me. Financially, just wouldnt have been responsible of me considering im moving cross country in a few weeks.

you have to get there HOURS early to get a decent place to watch from. my buddies showed up 3 hours early.

I think Thor is going to be at the top now for quite a while. I've been waiting for him to squeak to the top at the Arnold or WSM for a while now. He's there now and I think he's going to hang onto it.

Brian is dealing with a lot of injuries that are catching up but honestly, I think his weight is starting to limit him.

Thor dropped weight and simultaneously increased his deadlift, and other lifts, by a huge margin.

Eating so much and carrying around so much weight becomes a limiting factor at a certain point. Brian was trying to get his diet under control recently too but I think Thor had a headstart on getting his adjusted and it showed.

Agreed. I know Shaw was working with Stan efferding and leaning out some. I think he can squeeze out another wsm title before Thor is entirely dominate for a long period. I predict if Shaw wins one more he'll retire .

I didn't know Shaw was working with Stan Efferding too, I knew Thor was and I think it made a huge difference.

The last video I watched of Brian Shaw he was still using his old nutritionist, but you're right... I recall him talking about some of Stan's methods. He was doing the monster mash thing I think.

I'd say that is Thor winning most of what he wants to for the next 3-5 years... Or as long as he tries his hardest. Looked easy for him.

Right, Boys... I'm back*

*ish.

Injury is still noticeable, the fucked rib, but it doesn't hurt under normal conditions or the right load, so...

Today I did a trial run, 3 squats at 50kg/110lbs.
I know that's fuck all, but I've got to start back somewhere. Got 9 weeks to complete recovery and be ready for this novice comp... Nothing in it scares me except the yoke is a bit heavier than I've done and the final event is axle press for reps. Fuck. Probably my weakest event...

Anyway, I'll be back on this thread at least weekly.

Day 2/Session 2 of comeback.

3x5x95kg squats
3x5x70kg bench
3x5x115kg hook grip deads.

All feels good.... Some lower back DOMS from yesterday workout but no real pain and not a peep from my sore rib!

Very pleased. Trying not to overdo it... Need to keep increments small and the ego in check. Randall.

Day 9 session 5
Was due to train yesterday, but missed it - utterly fucked from a long say at work.
Made it there today instead.

Squat 3x5x117.5kg
Bench 3x5x85kg
Hook dead 3x5x140kg

Squats felt heavier but no rib issues.
Bench felt a lot heavier but my setup felt loads better and all three sets went really well.
Deads starting to feel like a heavy weight again, but all reps completed cleanly.

Shaking like a shitting dog back home now, but it's all good.
