War On Drugs

You'd think there would be so much revenue in legalising drugs that governments would be champing at the bit to do so.
So much money in, so much less money spent.

The legal cannabis model is proving lucrative in Colorado, for example.

They are making a ton of money as it stands now. Privatized prisons, hiring training and arming an entire police/federal force to hunt drug users and producers/sellers, the court system, etc etc.

Faulty Police crime kits now doesn't that sound familiar, bc thats what most are using as screening tools.

The problem is much more likely to arise when those who are "busted" have to settle for a state or court appointed attorney bc of their indigent status.

The end result being an out of court settlement based on "evidence" of poor or questionable quality.

Here's what I don't get. democrats want to free half our prison population, demonize our police, take our guns, allow folks to enter our country illegally and stay, jail folks for defending themselves, etc etc. where does the insanity stop?

You don't think a developed country having the world's largest prison population is insane?

no, not the statement you made in itself. if you belong in prison then you belong there no matter how developed our country is. not to say there aren't folks in our system that don't belong there as I'm sure there are many that aren't in prison that do belong there.

o_O

You need to watch less Trump speeches brother. With the context you're painting, there is a lot you don't seem to get...

According to Wikipedia the crime rate has been on the decline for almost thirty years, while the prison and jail population have steadily increased the whole time. The number of crimes now is literally almost half what it was in the late 80's and early 90's and the number of incarcerated people is double now what it was then. Something doesn't add up for sure.

Do you believe in incarcerating somebody for making the choice about what they put in their body?

"Private prisons currently house approximately 22,660 federal inmates, according to the DOJ report, which translates to roughly 12 percent of the total inmate population. The Bureau of Prisons paid $639 million to private prisons in fiscal year 2014, averaging$22,159 per prisoner."

How Much Money Do Private Prisons Make? They're Earning Thousands Per Inmate

Perrin, want to go into business together?

Damn Democrats... :)

Aren't they starting to do away with some private prisons? My girlfriend was telling me something about it the other day. I remember that thing a few years back where some judges were caught taking huge kickbacks from the private prisons to railroad people for minor offenses.

They definitely keep our local jails here full to capacity under any circumstances. They raise bonds and keep people for months on things they'd normally be released after a few days.

lol, I'm pretty sure I have a lifetime ban from doing anything related to the justice system.

Hard to say. It'll depend on the results of the election and if the next potus sticks to their policy outlines.

If Trump wins the election, I'd expect that 12% to increase drastically.

No. and I'm not a supporter of "the war on drugs".

Then what may I ask is your issue with releasing half the prison population bc these are the people that would be release. Nobody is advocating releasing murderers, rapists, etc.

Not if he deports the illegals currently in prison. That's at least 35% of the prison population. I suspect Congress will prevent that from happening, though.

Of course Hillary has promised to end private prisons and refuse prison lobby money. Her campaign has over $300K in prison lobby or connected donations so far, but she gave a whole $8K or so to a women's prison charity recently, so that's something. Wonder what she will do with all those deplorables...
