Who is our biggest, most shredded member at Meso?

Pretty interesting, jibes with other anecdotal I have seen...

They did this via DEXA or through some other method?

Generally DEXA scan folks can tell just from the bone density if someone is lifting. Seen a few YT dude get scans with amusing reactions from the techs about how much denser their bones are than the people they normally see.

Would give serious money to be able to go back in time and get scans of my wife and I before lifting and compare to now.
I got my shin bone smashed with an 18 mph bowling ball in a trick gone bad.
Im good:cool:

How depleted do you guys tend to get during a cut? God, I feel like I’m half my size right now. Feels so depressing.

The flattening out during a cut is almost unavoidable on low days especially when you strings several together in a row with no re-feeds. It's just part of the process and yeah, it's the one thing I hate the most.

It fucks with your head, brings comments from the average folks in the peanut gallery asking if you've lost weight (not in a good way) and unless your in the gym and pumped (looking ripped) you think you look like a stick figure.

Re-feeds, GH and timed insulin usage are helpful to keep semi-full but unless you're a freak being in a deficit with carbs cut back, increased training volume and cardio is going to flatten you out big time. You gotta trust the process man.

This is why I hold on to my intra workout carbs so dearly... It's the last "expendable" I'll cut out of my diet...

Absolutely agree. Unfortunately, not everyone can split up cardio and training so using a intra workout drink with carbs then going straight into cardio doesn't allow for optimal fat burning especially if insulin is present.

I keep my cardio fasted upon waking so I can train with my intra workout shake doing it's thing later in the day.

It's no wonder "average" people think we are all out of our minds when you look at all the things we do to look a certain way. Personally, I couldn't live any other life style long term. I've been bodybuilding too long.

I’ve never used an intra workout shake. Can someone explain the benefits and use of one?

It's true. However, the people that know me are never surprised. Everything in my life has always been 100% or 0%, I only know two speeds. I'm either all in, or all out.... I take everything to the limits... So, they aren't shocked when they see me weighing my meals, waking up at 5a for cardio, etc... The ones who don't know me at all are shocked and appalled. Those people are normally failures at life who tend to look like shit, I've noticed.

Thanks!

A few questions:

It’s still good to have a post workout shake if you’re utilizing an intra workout shake, correct?

Do you just drink it throughout your time at the gym, like a normal water bottle? Any optimal time to do so?

What kind of mix do you use for the shake?
I sip on mine as I train. Typically 1 sip or two between sets and timing it to last through most of the training. Mine are typically 50-60 grams of protein, 80-150 grams of Dextrose (depends on if I'm using insulin and how much) and 10G of creatine.

I usually eat a protein/carb/no or low fat meal within an hour of finishing training so no post workout shake is needed.

How much dextrose would you recommend for someone not taking insulin? Im omw to GNC to pick some up right now, haha. And is that much protein necessary?

I'd recommend that your shake contain whatever you'd normally put into your post workout shake. The point of the intra shake to immediately shuttle those nutrients (carbs and amino acids) directly to the cells that are wide open during your training. You can't really over due it on the protein.

The Dextrose without taking insulin needs to be enough to create a natural spike and maintain that elevation during your training. I'd say start in the 40-50 gram range and see how that works for you. Again, a good starting point would be whatever mix you use for post workout.

You can also save a ton of money and just use grape/pineapple juice with EAAs.... It tastes great and if you use 100% juice, there isn't a ton of fake shit in there...

As far as "how much" @foxace36 , just determine your daily "macros" for carbs and try to have about 70% of them pre, intra and post workout. Don't have TOO MANY carbs now because you've added an intra workout shake.... Work it all out so you're still in a surplus - assuming you're trying to grow - but not going to KILL yourself with way too many carbs.

I personally believe it's the biggest advancement in lifting/dieting we've seen in the last few years... Intra workout nutrition has sped up my results tremendously.... As Milos says "Don't lift on empty blood..."

Well, I’m actually cutting right now. Most of my carbs end up around my workout regardless because I’m basically IF’ing. I tend to get all of my meals in before 6PM.

EDIT: Is there any point to an intra shake on cardio days?

Good points @Wunderpus. Too many guys dialing up carbs for no reason and getting fat. You gotta time that shit to use it effectively and anything beyond that is just body fat waiting to happen.
