I've got no problem with God as a concept but religion sucks....all religions. More people have died in the name of religion than any other man-made fairy tail. Nothing more than a system on early indoctrination based on fear to insure Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc gain greater numbers/power and $$$. Religion is BIG business.....Catholic church needs what $500M per month to keep its doors open?

There maybe a "God" or creator but I liken "him" more to the fundamental laws of nature and not a big bearded man in the sky who decided if you're naughty or nice.....that's Santa Claus!

There's a big difference between the NEW testament and the OLD Testament. The new one seems to have this friendly forgiving God that understands he gave us flaws. The old one is more or a mean old bastard that likes to punish and wipe the slate from time to time. And what about those portions of these writings that someone just arbitrarily decided not to publish.??!! I don't recall the name right now.

How many people you think have opened up a church just to earn a living??!! They probably even tell themselves they are doing "the Lord's work" and sleep soundly. And there are new churches opening up on every street corner every day. After all, times are touch and preachers/ I mean people need HELP.. Churches are great money makers and all tax free too.

I too like to draw a big dissection between God and the "church". A church is run by one man who is somehow ordained by God to spread his word.? Really? A lets just forget for a second that there are TONS of religions current and over the years and time. And I have met enough religious officials to know they are not all non-bias. Keep in mind these are the same folks that would have had some of us stoned to death in the streets 500 years ago for free thought..

So why do folks go down to their corner church on Sundays? Fear of mortality? Political Correctness? It does seem like people seem to "find God" as they age, get weak, or experience the realization that they are gonna die one day. Or are they just BUYING A CLEAN CONSCIENCE PERHAPS...!!?? Is it because they were TOLD they have to and dont know any different from a young age...??

And both testaments describe the same God. The old testament was pre-messiah...pre Jesus.and therefore man was required to make sacrifices for the atonement of sin....in the new testament Jesus becomes the permanent propitiation. w many people you think have opened up a church just to earn a living??!! I dont see how there it is confusing to say there those followers of God who are misguided or lack complete devotion. I am one. Although, I no longer attend church. That being said, you can say; why do Christians drive past the homeless man, and I can respond by telling you, there are many who do not. Many. Why are they painted with the same brush?

In the overwhelming majority of cases the observers which surround clergy begin to believe they "are better than me" or "more devoted" or "destined to find heaven". Thereafter MANY said "serfs of God" are placed on some ambiguous path to perfection, only to realize a short time later, that just ain't gonna happen!

Ergo once these men of God fail to live up to the expectation of OTHERS the exaggerated response becomes, what disappointment, an utter failure, pathetic, but he was a "Christian" how could he etc.

Although a few appointed priests, evangelists, preachers are horrific examples of their essential purpose (God created the BIG BANG) as servants of God thru MEN, that form of arrangement is destined for failure.

I am a huge believer in God and I know my God is a caring and forgiving God. Those that say "there is no God" is of their own opinion for which they are entitled...BUT, they also have more to lose IF there is a God. So, if I sit here the rest of my life believing there is a God and it turns out there isn't when I pass, what do I lose? Nothing.
Dr. Jim mentioned hell as punishment to clergy for their acts...yeah we would like that from God, but God is a forgiving God. He knows we are not and never will be perfect. We will all go on sinning against one another in one shape or fashion. Murderer's, rapists, etc. will be forgiven if they repent.

This is just my .02 cents and some change. Don't expect anyone to agree, it's just my belief.

In retrospect and addendum to my last post. Many nights I lay awake questioning my actions and the decisions I have made. In some moments I regret to have ever uttered some of the ignorant things that I have, and even posed as questions. So there is a positive in my "first 400" and at the same time a negative. The posts which I am most fearful of are the ones thereafter really. As with every day we are molded by stimulus around us, is one day more limited we become. Other days I know this is the process of learning. This takes BRAVADO which we are all gifted to different degrees. A paint myself as not a sinner or saint, but a human animal that is doing his BEST to deal with the CONUNDRUM of CONSCIOUS COGNITIVE THOUGHT which WE(the Human Animal) as both cursed and blessed with.

I hereby state openly and objectively that I do not regret of discount a question of thought which I have ever posed here. I proclaim myself a searcher of truth, with science as a cherry on top at best. I will never hold offense to ANYONE who challenges ANYTHING I say, because I openly assert that even my most direct "Statements" are at best questions because I embrace all that is afforded me. And even light can be found in the most negative presentations if one is willing to accept his actions that brough this about, and look to see BOTH the cause and occurrence related. With a lack of definitive evidence, this can only be a subjective debate. Neither outlook can be proved empirically to be “right”, or “wrong”.

Personally, I find the topic of morality interesting. For instance, how is that everyone in the world can watch the same movie (depending on country, translation may be needed), and we will all point out the same characters as being either GOOD, or BAD. Do we instinctively have a universal agreement of these virtues… Is this god given? or an adaptation put in place by evolution to further our reproductive ends.

This topic is too vast to be captured in this tread, IMO. If it was a cut-and-dry topic, there would be definitive proof, oppose to scholarly debate.

My sentiments exactly mate, practically speaking this an irrefutable FACT, IMO.

Believers lose nothing yet nonbelievers could be losing eternity! Moreover I find it comforting to know there is "life after death".

Ever wonder why the number of "legitimate and evanescent" atheists decreases with advancing age, .......perhaps this thought becomes less provocative and more apparent AND relevant. Yep indeed!
