shoulder torn up

I am just finishing rotator cuff surgery rehab. Torn cuff and bicep tear. Rehab the first 4 weeks was a bitch. But I ran tb 500 and kept my test at 250. Even my surgeon said he was supprised how fast I healed.

Ouch, good luck with the surgery, hope you recover ASAP.

Quick question, did you used to do a lot of pulling or pressing behind your head?

Och sounds rough we don't get much snow in the south but I've had my share of broke bones and injurys from dirt bikes
it's no fun not being able to train like you want

I've had two bicep tendon tear repairs on my left arm one at the elbow and the last at the shoulder when he also took chips out of the shoulder.

You should be back lifting light within six weeks, although I wouldn't tell the surgeon that, bicep shouldn't cause you many issues. Shoulder seems to be a little more long lasting but I'm guessing 3 to 4 months and you should be back to 80 to 90%.

Good luck on the recovery.

Good lord, that’s no fun. You’ll be spending some time recovering. I broke my left shoulder 3.5 years ago, in a unlucky fall. It’s still not quite right and really affects me in the gym. Basically I need the bone shaved down bc it’s
impinging, arthroscopic. Good you’re getting it over with. I’m hearing some good things about the ‘healing peptides’ like TB-500 or BPC-157, might be good for you...Regardless best of luck

I tore my shoulder up I'm having surgery fri am, I was wondering who has had shoulder surgery and how long you were lad up?

the injury is as follows.

chronic tearing of the ac ligament.
their is a complete full thickness tear of the Supraspinatus tendon.
bicep labral ancor, longitudinal split proximally.
labrum fraying posteriorly and superiorly.
biceps tendon longitudinal split.
their is fraying lnvolving the cephalad articular carlilage of the humeral head.

Your surgeon will probably tell you 8 weeks in an immobilizer. That is conservative because he will not want to fix it again. I would suggest planning on being in the immobilizer 24/7 for 4 weeks; and taking in off only to sleep for 2 more. I really would expect 2 months before significant resistance training of the shoulder. Biceps, triceps, traps, lats should be ok for training after week 6. I honestly wouldn't expect too much deltoid work before the 8 week mark.
I have scrubbed over 100 SLAP, Bankart, rotatator cuff, etc surgeries; and they really are very tender reattachments. Some areas of the torn tendon or muscle will be less than 1mm in thickness when reattached. The success of the repair depends on strict immobilization of those reattachments for new granulation to occur over the healing period. Not sure of your age, but I would try to go by the doctor's orders if you are over 25.
I hate even thinking about this because I need a very similar surgery; and the recovery period sure doesn't fit my life right now.
Some failed shoulder surgeries (i.e. the patient didn't stay in the immobilizer and tore it up) result in total shoulder replacement. If it comes to that; lifting with full range of motion will be impossible.
I did read a couple of promising studies involving HGH for promoted healing after shoulder surgery. I certainly intend to use it; and I am saving up for it right now. I can't see any good reason not to use GH if it can be afforded.
Good luck to you sir; and please wear the immobilizer.

Meant to say strict immobilization EXCEPT for what your physical therapist does at the appointments.

In general folk requiring complex shoulder repairs are limited to no more than “light lifting” during the first 3 months, and should expect a FULL and complete recovery wo any limitations at roughly ONE YEAR.

No one will be able to provide more insight until the after the surgery.

I hope you have asked your surgeon these questions, bc HE’S the most reliable resource.

What he said ^^. It really is a long-haul deal; but I would expect life changing results if recovered right. At least I hope so.
Can't stress enough how important it is to NOT tear it up after surgery. Get ready to wipe with the other hand for a while.

FYI
Being directly involved in the post op recovery and rehab of a number of folk with shoulder surgeries I can tell you those who fair the best follow their surgeons rehab plan to the “T”!

And those that do poorly,
are continually trying to push their recovery and along with it the incisions, clips and anastomosis, with the end result being a failed shoulder syndrome!

Wanna guess what category of patients tend to do poorly IME?

RECREATIONAL BB!

I don't doubt that one bit.

Unfortunately my buddy had labrum surgery two weeks ago and they told him it could be up to 6 months before he could get back into the gym full time.

How is the recovery going so far, @ironwill1951? It has been like over 6 months since you posted this thread and if you had the surgery how did it go?
