A cry for help... and my powerlifting log

I get a kick out of people talking shit about the poundages in some logs. Calling them weak and shit. Gotta stay a little lighter when you train solo.

This
I'm still new to PL
So I still have SERIOUSLY off days on my lifts.
I also dont have a gaurd/safety on my squat rack... so if I dump the weight, shit is not going to end well.

I dknt go above my 6RM when training alone

@BigBaldBeardGuy is a fuckinf savage lol

The safety arms take the weight if I can’t get it. I’ve just been fortunate that I’ve never had a slip or weird movement halfway up. I’d be dumping it pretty hard.

I’m old anyway. I’m not making anymore 50 pound jumps or ego lifts.
I dont lift heavy enough yet to worry about safeties not holding but they are cheap so who knows

I dropped 225 at a friends place 3 weeks ago.
Had safety bars on his power rack, but it still hurt like fuck.
I definitely wouldnt want 400s hitting me, just based off how that 225 felt lol

EDIT
He has no AC in his training room in the mechanical shop.
Sp I was sweaty as fuck... and I always grip suicide, so it wasnt a good combination lol

Yea. I do a full grip and always always always use chalk - it’s cheap a block will last over a year.

When I was in 7th grade we were herded into an old weight room to meet our coaches. One was a big huge lineman sized man that was two time national champions and the other was a stud duck athlete in track and football. Was Mr.Texas in the heavyweight I believe once. He was laying on a bench doing skull crushers with 45 pound plate on each side. It was totally on purpose but I wanted to be that guy. Lol. I will never forget that image and what he stood up and said to us.

He stressed the fact that this wasn’t some place for bullshit. He told us a story a time when he was working in a gym in the early am. A absolute beast of a young high school athlete would train everyday at 5 am. My coach said hello and the guy went on to warm up. Coach said it was kinda quiet from that end of the gym and went to check. Dude could bench three plates easy but something happened and 225 killed his ass while he was warming up. Stay safe browskis.

Absolutely, if you’re not in a gym or have a partner/group Taking anything over 95% on squat or bench is dangerous. However I did get pretty good at dumping squats in a cage in my 20’s Training solo

I don’t like calling it “dangerous”. I’m more a fan of “highly motivating to complete the lift”. Lol

I’ve been training solo for more than 11 years. I haven’t had so much as a close call in that time period. As long as you know your limitations by doing heavy doubles and triples and have your equipment set up properly, the risk is mitigated.

Yes I've seen scary stuff like many years back I saw a kid who had 365lbs on his back and walking back out off the hooks take a misstep and fell backwards hitting his head on the bar. He just got up like nothing.

The element of danger is greatly decreased when the lifter in question knows what they’re doing.
“A good man knows his limits “ Dirty Harry

I really firmly believe you should learn how to dump a squat, before you ever reach a point where you may need to dump it. Its saved me a couple times when I first started squatting heavy and didn't go to a gym where people knew how to spot a squat

I had a competition this weekend.

I opened with 455 pound squat and that went well. I fucked up on my 2nd attempt. This is 475 lbs. Popped the lateralis muscle on the side of my right leg. (Not for the feint of heart).

I was “that guy” that dampened the mood of the whole meet. And I felt shitty for it. Stayed and did bench but there was no real way to finish out with deadlift.

I’ll post the bench attempts. Overall happy with them except I couldn’t use leg drive on my right side.

Ouch that's bad and hope you heal up fast. How did you do with bench despite that injury?

Damn
Are you okay?

Looked pretty sick huh? I think I’m alright though. Quad is all swollen but I can move my leg pretty normal. I’ve done similar 2 other times training but at a lesser degree, the most recent being the beginning of June.

I guess the muscle hasn’t had a chance to fully strengthen. I plan on resting it for at least 4 weeks. Then cut the training max way back, increase volume and move slower. I’m 45 years old and I realized I can’t bounce back the way I did in my 20s.

Hope it's not a serious tear. Plan on going to the doc to get it checked?

Honestly
It was more the SOUND that you made when you went down.
That wasnt a "minor pain" sound lol.

Good to hear you have q little mobility at least

You've got a few years on me, and I dont recover quickly by any stretch of the imagination anymore lol
