Meso Powerlifting Corner

Since we are on the subject , my bench session was killer last night. Up to 375 for easy doubles. I can prob crush 405 already but I'm setting pr's safely these days. Did alot of long pause reps at 315 as well. If I truly shoot for 100% max at the end of December I'm thinking close to 425 give or take. I'll prob take the 405 for an easy rep and be happy tho, just the way I roll these days. Longevity has became more important the past two years, staying mostly injury free.
Its called maturity
But that being said there is an awfully dim line between obsessed aggressiveness and maturity to know your limits. You have to dance with it. No blank pages bro

Yeah, I've only maxed three times this year. Twice at meets and once at a mock meet in the gym. Not planning to max again until nationals next summer.
My first love has always been powerlifting. At the heart thats what i am. I always appreciated the intense desire of ppl who are alike to pursue muscular awesomeness withOUT vanity as BB do. The fakeness of BB disgusts me. But i am a hybrid now and i like that. All this being said. Pushing maximal weight all the time is not good for you. Just wait till you get older. Look at the ones who came before you and realize what lies ahead if you continue to abuse yourself. Gots to take care of yourself

I hear you. That's part of the reason I've been doing some BB stuff since my meet last month. I think eventually I'll move on to other styles of training and take it easy on the powerlifting except to maybe set records in the masters division. For now I have my heart set on elite numbers and I know I've got it in me to get there.

I believe that is the heart of what BB was supposed to be. All go and all show. That is at least for me what im trying to accomplish :)

This is great advice!

There is no doubt you will have to deal with injuries if you are competing in powerlifting at a high level. At 50 the field of top competition for me has narrowed greatly as many just can't do it anymore.

I have had a fully torn bicep tendon which was surgically repaired, two surgically repaired hernias and two existing "high" hernias which haven't been repaired that I lift around, a torn pec which is still giving me issues and that isn't touching on my knee issues because those are more of a confirmation problem than caused by powerlifting. Relatively speaking I'm in much better shape physically than most at my age who competed at the same levels for any length of time. So I guess I'm confirming what Trukker says injuries are going to occur.

You definitely have to decide what you want and what you are willing to risk when you compete at a high level in powerlifting and serious injury is always a threat. There are many in my life who wish I would give the sport up but I love to train and compete at a high level.

Well bros, I think I'm on the right track... been doing the "McGill 3", that Brian Carroll recommends, and for the FIRST time today I felt my core activate during my Deadlift session. I've been doing them, I think, for about 2 weeks now.... it was very noticeable after bracing and pulling.

Pulled 455 for triples

This is a great post trukker. I feel the same way. BB does nothing for me in the full sense of what it is. I like to see myself a a "lifter" be big, be strong and fast. I think that is what weightlifting is all about. (Truth be told though i still want disgustingly huge arms lol)

My old man was a really old school lifter. One of those guys that never trained his arms, never looked at himself in the mirror, never followed a logical program and just went into the gym and busted his ass. I remember he always preached, "Don't worry about muscle, just build your strength and the muscle will come." He always ripped on people who wore tight shirts, watched what they ate, tried to look good, etc.

Yet, I have to admit one of the happiest moments I saw him in growing up is when he came home bragging about how he finally had 18"arms. Lol. He instantly went from making fun of people who cared about how they look to making me take a picture of him flexing on a disposable camera he just bought at the gas station after the gym. lol

Great story ...my grandpa was a 5'6" concrete finisher with natural 18" baseball biceps and he use to give me a hard time over my bodybuilding . He came from that era where you didnt flex or make a spectacle of yourself...still I remember him popping a bicep shot and smiling , it always left an impression on me...~Ogh

So I'm having a bit of an issue with my front squats and snatch, although I'm hitting PRs and all my numbers in slow motion I've got a very noticeable issue my thoracic spine won't arch. I have fractured 3 vetabre in my thoracic spine but I'm wondering if there is some movement or mobility motion that's specific for fixing thoracic spine mobility and posture. I am really hoping that being stupid a few years ago isn't going to become a limiting factor for my weightlifting as I'm signed up for a comp in January to get my beak wet. Powerlifting I've found every angle needed to avoid any issues with this but in weightlifting I can't avoid it I've got to fix it now

Thanks guys ^^^ :( had to go find my answers elsewhere! I thought we were friends:(:(:(.

Anyways I'm over it its cool:cool:.

Anyone use muscle primer moves? Read a cheesy article at Tnation that says if you do 2 sets of 3 reps of 6RPE Romanian deadlifts and 2x3 or ab rollouts you prime your glutes abdominal wall and lats all to work together and fire better during you big lifts. I don't know what I think about it and I don't lift heavy again until Tuesday so I'll try it then but seeing if anyone else has any PRIMER moves they want to share?

I actually started doing that recently and I have noticed it helps prep me for a big pull. I'll still work my way up in weight afterwards doing some doubles.

Sorry. :(

You know I pretty much never stretch. I should, but I don't.

I've done hammer curls and those things on the cables where you use your lats to press down to get ready for heavy benching. Seems to help.

Have you tried inversion with a 200lb band choked off a power rack?

Maybe also try laying on the ground on your stomach hands folded behind your head like you're doing a sit up. Lift your fee and head off the ground and hold statically. Repeat.
