Meso Powerlifting Corner

Good work. I finally got back to 405 on bench yesterday, but my form went to shit. I've been working hard on squats and deads and neglecting bench too much.

I was off deads for the better part of six months until a few weeks back. Really been focusing on squat and bench. Congrats on yours as well. Big benches for the both of us.

Do you guys ramp up your sets , or do straight sets? If your doing say 3x3 would you ramp up or do 3x3 constant weight.

Once I work up to the weight I plan on using for my working sets, I'll typically stay there. Say I plan on 335 being my working weight for bench. I'll hit increasing weights while I work up to 335, but once I'm there that's where I stay for the 3x3.

I think that's what you're asking?

If my program called for 3x3 I'd ramp up to my working set weight and then do 3 sets of 3 with it. Same weight.

If my program called for 1x3 I'd ramp up to one peak set of 3 and then if it called for back off sets I'd do some lighter sets of 3 after the one peak set.

I do a lot more sets across with the same weight than I do ramping up to one peak set. More volume that way and volume is the key to progress.

Yes that's exactly what I'm asking. I been reading some articles on ramp sets. Some do 5x5 with ramping up and on the last 5 would be the top weight. I believe the ramp sets are to prepare your nervous system.

That's not 5x5 though, that's 1x5. The sets leading up to it are just warmup sets. You should ramp up to your 5x5 anyway.

Might as well post this here, too.

500 squat in sleeves and 550 in wraps and a 405 bench. Pulled 585 just for fun, but my face was in the vid too much. Big milestones today.

Been busy with work lately and I'm just getting caught up. Strong work!! You definitely have things moving in the right direction.

Thanks, MP. I'm looking to hit a regional meet later this year. Still on the fence about 198 or 220. Was 211lbs fully dressed in shoes in the evening yesterday, so making 198 would be a breeze. Assuming my squat and bench stayed exactly the same all I'd need to total elite would be a 632 deadlift and I think I'll be there within two months tops going by recent progress.

Nice! Sounds like something to target for sure! I will be following along. You've put in the work and will continue to have success going forward.
