Meso Powerlifting Corner

This was shit man... literally the shittiest tutorial I’ve seen ever. If the guy is shirtless instantly he isn’t a power lifter so wrong section there and there isn’t any actual information in this like at all.
Did you read the post? Do you have a sense of humor? Lol

I know @RodgerThat started a thread on this before, but it was more guys just posting their wilks score.

My question, however, is what do you guys consider a highly competitive wilks? In typical dw fashion I'm already looking past my upcoming strongman comp, and itching to see where my big 3 are and work on really getting them up there.

Just judging by where my training has been, I'm guessing my total is gonna be around 1525 @ 230 bodyweight. That's a 414 Wilks by the calculator I use.

Game plan 2018 is gonna be doing one strongman meet around the end of the year and I'd like to get two powerlifting meets in before that.

400+ and you are a serious powerlifting competitor especially atthat weight. Wilks favours the super heavy weights and super light weights

Sweet. I'd like to get into the 420 range but it seems to take a lot on your total to move a few points.

I get the feeling next year is gonna be good to me tho. Not that 2017 wasn't , but I have a much more structured plan than I came into this year with.

Anything over 400 is good, 450 would be damn good and anything close to 500 would be well into elite and maybe international elite.

Like @RodgerThat said, wilks really favors the light and super heavy weight classes it seems. My last meet netted me a 415ish wilks. Would like to to get a 450 wilks by the end of the year next year. It's around a 1675 total.

Next year I may finally hop into wraps. We will see. Really want a 550 squat in sleeves first. I'm sure once I hit that I'll want a 600 in sleeves lol endless cycle

This may be a silly question, but is Wilkes affected by things like wraps and suits? I have never seen a multiplier for equipment.

I'm not sure. Geared lifters generally don't give a fuck about Wilks. Honestly, I don't really care for it as I think it's somewhat of a flawed system that is advantageous if your lightweight or heavyweight. That and pair in 20lbs in cutting weight to make a weight class, and it really throws you for a loop.

Calculated the same but should be prefaced with geared. Best male wilks is like 779 I believe in multi ply for guys and something stupid like 816 for multi ply women’s but because the male was a SHW it’s kinda stupid he totalled something like 3000lb in the 120+kg category but with 4 or 5 squat suits and deadlift suits on and 3m wraps and bench shirts (yes plural) so I mean who gives a fuck? If you can’t come anything close to your maxes without all your gear who’s really lifting the weight. My belt adds about 10% to a lift and 90% peace of mind for injury and my sleeves keep my knees alive anything more then that and I think it should be prefaced as Even wraps aren’t the same as raw even though they call it “classic raw” I could get 30lb extra out of a wrap were you could get 70lb out of the same wrap so it changes the game to much

Yea, I moved away from wraps about a year ago. Just sleeves and belt for me.

I also calculate my wilks at my walk around weight, I've never cut weight but I imagine depending on comp and where my weight was I would for certain meets.

Sleeves are a god send, mine are not very tight but sure keep that whole area warm. They just feel so much better, I don't think they add a pd besides the placebo effect

Think I'm gonna do the pL meet at my secondary gym this weekend. I'm only two days off of my strongman comp, but I worked up to easy 495 squats tonight. My squat last time was only 505. I prob won't do anything else this week besides some mobility work, and a speed session friday. Meet is Sunday.

I would personally do your speed session preferably today or tomorrow.

Really? I only do my speed work up to 65 % or so. I thought the biggest benefit was keeping the cns sharp and firing hard and fast, and this can somewhat dull after a two day rest period.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I've just always done it that way and had success. Just curious on your thoughts

I’m with prodical on this, won’t be 100% recovered for the meet working out 2 days outs I usually compete on a Sunday and my last lift day is Thursday with 40% for 3x3. If you could do it Thursday night at 4x2 if you plan to use 60% I think that’s best, the deload days in the gym should almost leave you feeling like it’s an incomplete workout.

I am going to jump on the bandwagon here, my coach has me doing 50% work earlier in week then rest. I am doing alot of stretching, foam rolling and yoga. to keep things loose

So... I broke my protocol yesterday.

Speed work ended up with me smoking a 405 bench press PR. Oops.

Guilt level : fucking a crazy ex.
Prob a bad idea and it may screw me over later , but damn if it didn't feel good as fuck.

I will say, training with a slingshot has DEFINITELY improved my bench. I could have done a double easily. Just gonna shoot for a nice clean single for my third attempt on Sunday to be safe.
