Meso Powerlifting Corner

Happy to learn you'll be competing soon, Jay!

Sorry if you posted this already but what your lifts at now and what will your planned lifts for the meet most likely be?

Have you had anyone to help you do a mock meet, checking depth and doing judge commands?

Ya big beefy brochacho, what you weigh?

240 now. Going for 250 before the meet.

Right now my maxes (with pause) are 415SQ/375B/435DL. But thruthfully im already having issues worrying about not getting any of my lifts. I was close to calling in yesterday after my training session and telling the meet coordinator to take me off.

I dont know how to plan what numbers to do on lift day, or any of that. Ive been reading some, but pretty much all my knowledge on any of this comes from reading on my own and here.

Im moving in less than 3 weeks and where im going has a pretty reputable powerlifting gym. So my hope is to get there and hopefully see if I can get a little help before I just chicken out all together.

Don't chicken out! You'll be fine! More than fine! Its an experience, Jay, and a good one at that. Just commit, compete, and you'll be glad you did, I promise.

You've got this, Jay. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm down to help with the planning, peaking, lift selection, whatever you need. I'm 99% everyone else here that competes feels the same about helping out, too. Just do it and you'll be glad you did.

Y'all are right, and I will. Im just a little paranoid. Especially when it comes to squat depth. But Ive got some time to work it out and after I move Ill have a lot more time to train those last 5 weeks.

But I will take y'all up on the help. Ill try to get some videos here and get some eyes on.

Atta boy! Get those vids up so we can clear the air and start building your confidence on your lifts. If identity disclosure is an issue, consider sending the vids privately.

Just set up your camera at about hip level from the side. See some of my DIY camera stand idea posts if you need. That was my biggest concern at my first meet, squat depth. I was afraid I'd miss all three and get disqualified. I worked on mobility and going deep and ended up getting comments about going so low.

If you're nervous I recommend your opener squat to be something you can hit for four anytime. That way there's no chance of missing and you'll go from that momentum.

Anyway, you got this. Don't hesitate to tag me, PM me, chat, post here or my thread or whatever for anything, I mean that. This is going to be an awesome experience.

This @jaymaximus , you got plenty of time and people willing to help you out. Def don't back out. No matter what it's a good learning experience so just go in there and have fun while still trying to kick ass!

Totally in to help you out too jay!

On a side note @Docd187123 i have a 2 hour weigh in and I'm going to make that without issue but I'm wondering should I eat 1 or2 boxes of pop tarts after the weigh in? 8 pastry a box just don't know which will give me the best push, is 8 enough to have the energy? Is 16 too many and feel sick? These are the problems I'm contemplating this week

2hr weigh in sucks but try eating some beef jerky or salt and vinegar potato chips and good amount of water to see if you can retain some water in those two hours. Stuff as many poptarts down your throat (insert homo joke here) as you can without getting sick. You want carbs more than any other macro at that point.

I've recently run into cookie dough flavour as well as Oreo cookies and cream flavour and the cookie dough was splendid and I love Oreos so I'm thinking it'll be good too. I'll either do half and half 4 pastry a of each or both so all 8 of each.... Unless my coach/friend steals some in which then I'll have like 12 total lol.
