Meso Powerlifting Corner

It has the C word in it man of course he hates it! I forgot about toaster strudels haven't had that shit in a decade that's going on the list for sunday

So will you be packing your toaster to the meet?

Brown sugar is pretty damned good I cannot deny that lol.

I fucking LOATHE all ch**se, even cream ch**se hahaha

I wouldn't eat it at a meet though, it's one of the driest foods known to man even though it's good. End up going out by choking on a pop tart.

Speaking of choking on dry food, @Docd187123 you'll get a kick out of this story. I was never a big weed smoker, but I tried to get into it when I was a teenager. One time when I was about fifteen I was home alone smoking weed and munching on powdered donuts. Nearly died packing them away without taking a drink. Felt like cement in my throat. I lived in the country, too. I panicked, thought I was going to die for real. Started to try to run to my neighbors and ended up getting it swallowed about the time I got to my door. Seriously, it was terrifying. Hilarious now though.

I'm a huge fan of maryjane. It helps so much with appetite and other things for me. I remember I had this one strain that gave me appetite like you wouldn't believe. I was literally kicked out of an all you can eat buffet bc I would not stop eating. They threatened to call the cops on me lol

I gave up on it a long time ago, gives me intense anxiety and paranoia every time. You ever eat a large amount of dry Cap'N Crunch aka Cap'N mouth shredder?

Makes me more sociable and much less of an asshole lol.

Never a large amount no. My favorite cereal is he frosted mini wheats which I've eaten a lot of dry. I know the pain.

So got to some thinking and have a few questions for the more experienced. Reading a bunch of stuff from Matt duffin has made me think about getting a buffalo bar for myself for training. I'll only be competing 1 maybe 2 times a year if I'm lucky so I would use the Buffalo bar for all benching and squating until 6 weeks prior to meet then switch back to my Matt chan bar. My question is this, does the movement really transfer over as good as they say? Will the extra depth increase for bench be an aid for out of hole strength or would it hinder me as my body wouldn't be use to the press position during a bench? Finally the Buffalo bar has a slight bend to it but Matt duffin has made his own and the name is creative "duffalo bar" that has slightly more bend and longer sleeves for more plates (not that I need the longer sleeves ain't that strong ) so would the slightly more bend be advantageous do you think?

Other thing I'm considering is a SSB due to its ability to let you get real deep into the squat and you have to sit back hard to maintain body positioning so will help with increasing back strength as well and aid in my deadlift.

Money wise it's a one or the other sorta deal cause these puppies ain't cheap so I need the meso community to help direct me in which way to empty my wallet:p

Totally in to help you out too jay!

On a side note @Docd187123 i have a 2 hour weigh in and I'm going to make that without issue but I'm wondering should I eat 1 or2 boxes of pop tarts after the weigh in? 8 pastry a box just don't know which will give me the best push, is 8 enough to have the energy? Is 16 too many and feel sick? These are the problems I'm contemplating this week

3 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a bag of chex mix are my during meet fixtures. Add in a gallon of mixed pre workout with a whole bunch of added beta alanine, creatine and whatever else I decide to throw in and about 12 bottled waters and you are all set.

I've always wanted to use an ssb, no gym around me has ever had one, not even when.I was in college that I know of. And we had a multi million dollar facility there. Olympic platform with eleiko bars and weights. Tons of squat racks. I took it for granted until I didn't have all that anymore. And still no ssb. So I'd go with that. You see your Derek Kendall's and other insanely strong guys using them, so they must have merit in a training program, BC I feel like those guys don't waste any time or effort at that level with nonsense equipment or gimmicks.

I guess working out in my own little home gym keeps me shielded from some things so i am going to have to ask what a ssb is. Hell, i was probably late on finding out about the Texas/Rogue barbells and that rogue bar is something i wish i had 5 years earlier.

Just got a rogue Ohio power barbell yesterday. Bench bar got bent during my last meet training cycle. Decided to avoid being cheap and get one that should last me quite a while.

I got the rogue Matt chan bar and absolutely love it. Rogue makes a quality bar that's for sure!

Another option that may allow you to get both is a top squat bar attachment instead of the ssb. I've used both. They aren't exactly the same but they aren't that far off either.

Holdsworth gave me his after I trained with him to use at my home gym. I think he felt sorry for the old bench guy's shoulders snap, crackling and popping every time he got in position to squat. Holdsworth's gym is in the same parking lot with Rogue.

Draper lists them for $139 but maybe you can find a used one out there somewhere.
