When y'all use chalk do you chalk your hands, the bar, or both? Ive always just done my hands but I was spotting a fella doing 650 on squats a few days ago and he did the bar (heavily), seemed to help.

works good for deads as it keeps the buckle and slack outta the way...
I need a partner to get it off and on though.

edit: not slack lol...like the loop and excess haha

That's what I read, I just haven't ever gotten around to having someone buckle me that way.

I chalk the bar on squats and put whatever I can on my back and shoulders.

i just do my hands but as you work through sets it cakes up...we keep wire brushes and you scrub it out and the end of a session. If Im doin heavy power cleans I sometime chalk the middle knurling or even put a swipe on my throat to protect it until my power beard comes back :(

I can't even get over the change in bucking mine on the opposite side let alone completely backwards haha
i wouldnt be able to physically do it tight enough. I already struggle getting my belt off after a heavy dead attempt, I can usually get it unassisted but the only time I can wear it backwards is training with a partner and they literally like put their foot on my corset style lol

do any of you use ammonia caps?
I have a bunch but never used them for weightlifting

I've used them a few times. They worked for me. It's similar to having someone slap your shoulders right before u do a big pull. Kind of gave me the real alert, pissed off feeling.

I use them for PR attempts and at meets for third attempts. I just ordered more the other day for my mock meet this weekend.

They do help. They make everything snap into focus for me.

I saw some guys using knee sleeves on deadlift last time. That was a new one and I don't see how it could even help. Seems like it'd get in the way even.

I pull in knee sleeves. My right knee is fucked and will need to be replaced in the next 5 to 7 years due to osteoarthritis and the sleeves give me some extra stability.

With the forest I have on my legs the knee sleeves actually create less friction than if I don't have them on. I'm pulling slightly under 600 so not a huge number by any means.

Lately I have been pulling with one set of knee sleeves around my shins and a second on my knees to keep my legs which are already scarred up from getting sliced up worse during this meet training cycle. You can do things that make you look gay in the gym when it is in your basement

I've never used wraps but I saw my buddy bought a new pair that has two ribbons of like elastic rubber woven in, says they help them tighten and stay tight on themselves? Thought it was pretty good idea maybe they've been around a long time but I was just recently introduced to them. That's one of those ideas where I was like damn...why didn't I think of that? :(

I didn't even think about stability, I was thinking they were trying to get some pounds out of them when they wouldn't even have their knees bent enough to get anything.

Slightly under 600 is fucking solid, what u mean? I'm happy with my mid 5 pulls and I have healthy knees! For the time being at least

Thanks Dw. Seems like tons of young guys at 165 and 181 posting 600+ deadlifts. I will be thrilled when I hit 600 and it will rank me very high nationally in the masters 198. Us old guys don't seem to pull as much but we can bench like MFer's!

Yea I learned to quit comparing myself to the viral videos. Those guys are the few and far between. Put someone like us (I can say that right?) In any average gym and we are the strongest guys in there. Not trying to be cocky but I know i am in mine. A few guys can beat me in one lift or another but I have the best totals by a long shot and am the heaviest lifter when training. But that's really not saying much. Just my gym isn't a specialty powerlifting/strongman/bodybuilding gym.

Not cocky at all, I am too. I can count on one hand how many guys I've seen pull 600+ in real life and that includes myself. Compared to the top level guys we might feel weak, but I'm sure we're the 1% already.
