Meso Powerlifting Corner

Joining this thread. I have been reading meso for a while now but just recently joined. I have been training for around 5 year seriously, the last 3 of those have been focused solely on powerlifting. I'm here to learn and help where i can.

Good to have you aboard, we're getting a strong powerlifting presence here and it's awesome. Stick around.

Here's another great section to check out, the logs section. I've got one myself and there's a few other active powerlifting logs. Get in on ours, start your own, whatever you want to do. It's a great community we've got going.

Steroid Cycle Log

Anyway, I just ran my first test cycle last year and I was blown away by my results. You'll be loving it here in a few weeks once it kicks in.

I'll be starting a log within the next week or so.
Thanks for the kind words and help! I appreciate it.

I have seen 3 guys pull 600+ locally. I would love to add my name to the list and it is coming. 10 week goal if possible. Anything even close to 600 is kicking it in my book. You just don't see people do it. Another thing about deadlift i love is that it requires no one - no spotter, no judge, nothing but personal drive. I don't have to guess on depth, hope my spot is good, etc.

Oh, and Masters, speak for yourself, my bench is not anything to write home about. Now squat...i can do that. Of the big 3 deadlift is by far my favorite, but not my strongest lift. I wish it was and that is what i am working towards. That and shoulder press are my focus at the moment.

Haven't you squatted 600 before? That's more impressive to me than a 600 deadlift. I've only seen one 600+ squat in my life. My deadlift far exceeds my squat and I think I just just not be built well for it. I'm still determined to crack a 600 squat with wraps someday though.

A few months ago I heard this guy at my gym tell another guy a 600lb deadlift by a 200lb man was unimpressive. Pretty ridiculous statement. It may be easier to get there at 200+, but nobody pulls 600+ by accident at any weight. It takes a lot of hard work. 700+ is unreal. I've seen that twice in my life. Both at my last meet and both by men well over 40.

I saw a 600+lb paused squat for a triple by a 198er..... My brain almost imploded.

Yea i hit 605 for a double on squats a year ago and have been cruising around 535-565 for 5 for the rest of the year off and on depending on how i feel that day. I've been just been concentrating on deads and trying to make them better. Also, i saw Shane Hammond hit 1000 , and that was freaking impressive. My 605, not so much. Bear in mind i squat out of a safety rack with horizontal pegs at depth. I don't have to guess about much.

The gym i used to work out at was called the weight room. I spent age 16 to 35 there before setting up my home gym. I got to see a few pretty unique lifters including Shane Hammond, Rickey Dale Crain(Crain's Muscle World), and a couple of others. We even had the power team come through with some Midsouth championship wrestlers back in the day. There have always been a handful of strong guys in the gym, or at least there used to be. The last time i was up there it seems to have moved away from that and more into the fitness thing. Mr. Crain was always impressive to me and stood out. At 165 pounds he hit 755 on the squat, 715 on the deadlift, and a total of 1830. That is freaking crazy. I'm 235 at the moment and would love to pull a 1600 pound total.

His descent speed on those squats was insane. I've heard of Crain, used one of his Okie deadlift bars one time. Nothing much like that around here. There's an old man that has some records in bench for his age, mid 70's.

1600 is my goal for my meet later this year in the 242 class. I was just under 1500 last time, so with a better program, stiffer wraps and a heavier cycle I think I've got a shot. Squat is my worst lift, hit a rough 500 with wraps at my last meet. I'd like to put at least 50-75 on that by the next meet. The rest shouldn't be a problem between bench and deadlift, something like 405-415 and 635-645.

I had a problem with my squats last year but increased my frequency too 3 times per week and that did the trick for me. I Ran a good program called PH3 by Dr Layne Norton. How many times per week are you squatting?

2x for the last ten weeks as I've been running Sheiko, 3x/week for about a year before that. I'm going back to 3x next week because I'll be finishing up Sheiko this weekend when I do my mock meet. I've been dealing with a lot of knee trouble since last year and all the time I've taken off squats due to that has really set me back, too.

Sounds good man! Keep us updated on the numbers from your mock meet.
