Yeah, unfortunately many people don't take that subject lightly. I'm an agnostic-atheist. My family is Catholic and very religious. I get spammed all kinds of religious emails and prayers from my mom and aunts. It drives me fucking nuts. And when I do see them in person (once a year, if that), I end up being cornered and preached to. I don't judge other people for their beliefs or lack of beliefs, but I can't stand it when they throw it all up in my face. But the minute I say anything remotely negative or joke about it, oh they get their panties in a bunch! Can't stand hypocrisy. Vent away, lady. I know I just did. ;-)Just a quick fucking vent and I have no where else to do it. I'm an atheist. A Christian friend posted a bday greeting a couple of weeks ago with a prayer offered for me or some bullshit. Yesterday was her bday so I posted a pic of a baby baked in a cake with the following "wishing you a reasoned and happy bday". Oh the butt hurt that followed. Now she's pm-ing me telling me how patient she's been with my hatred of Christianity. Christ on a cracker. I thought I was funny. But apparently I'm mean and baiting.
Ok. Done.

I'm an atheist as well. Sometimes it's extremely difficult to become or remain friends with people that are very devout. It eventually comes between you I think. I believe people should be allowed to believe whatever they want, including myself. Very religious people also see it as their duty to " convert " you by spreading the good word... They believe they are saving your soul! So just try to be flattered they don't want you to burn.
PS take a fucking joke

My husband is a Christian and we try our best to tolerate each other, ha. It has gotten better over the years, but still gets pretty awkward at times. He knows not to try to convert me, although he has tried and still says he wishes I would be more open-minded and it makes him sad knowing I'm going to Hell after I die. SMH!I'm an atheist as well. Is your current guy also a Christian or atheist? I'm currently live in the south also and feel like I always have to watch what I say to my friends. My last husband was a Christian. One of those Santa Claus types who believes if he's good he'll get what he wants. He was always so judgemental of me. I've only been "out" a few years. I live in the south and my lack of belief has been an issue in each of my marriages. Except my current guy. He's like me and it is great. I don't have to watch what I say and we commiserate over the same things we think are stupid. We are bonded in our cynicism lol.

Very cool. I didn't know such things exist. Will have to look into it!Last year I went to an atheist convention? And met Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss. I was beside myself.
The amazing randi and Michael Shermer will be there this year but Ireland tapped me out.

Couldn't have said it better.Haha.. You'll be in good company. I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun.
I'm glad y'all understand how I feel. Many say it won't bother them, but the truth comes out eventually.I was in a long term relationship up until about a year ago. She was an atheist also which made things much easier. When I started dating again, I started meeting these very religious girls some how! It really wasn't working out for me lol. They said they didn't care, although it was clear they did because they would try to reason with me about the afterlife. It drove me nuts... I would try to reason back that they should have an open mind. Luckily, the girl I've been with for awhile now is an atheist, or extremely agnostic to say the least.

I used to get a little too comfortable venting to my husband about the topic of religion, and it would always end up with him being offended and butt-hurt, even if that was not my intention. Now, we just try to avoid the subject at all costs, ha
I LOVE science!I say convention loosely because it's hard to rally around not believing in something. What it was was a lot of great intelligent minds talking about science and logic and.....oh Christ I just outed myself as a nerd......fuck....but it was awesome. We scienced so hard.
