Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

Even looking at my setup today it looks more like conventional deadlift with wide foot placement. Definitely explains the speed off the floor and inability to drive hips to the bar to lock it out. I think I'm still where I need to be as long as this knee pain goes away in the next 20 days.
Would knee sleeves help give your sore knee some support? Not sure if you would be allowed to use sleeves/wraps at your meet.

You can use them at meets. I don't like them on deadlift because the bar catches on them.
Dang didn't realize wraps be a problem but figured you may need to use them on at least your weaker knee for support. I wear knee sleeves myself because both knees I've damaged them when playing football as a teen.

I wear them for squats, but for deadlift it just forces the bar further away and creates more drag to rub against on the way up.

Knee wraps would suck on deadlifts because you wouldn't be able to bend low enough to reach the bar :D

I use sleeves over my shins during deads but when I finally do a meet I'll just wear socks.

I have knee issues too with some lateral instability, but they're fine for conventional deadlifts. I cringe when I see sumo lockouts though :(

Need some opinions from those with experience peaking for meets.

Brief summary I'm doing peak doubles this week, peak triples next week, then deload the next week for the meet. Because of some knee pain I guess I unconsciously went more narrow on my sumo stance yesterday and basically did conventional mechanics and missed my peak double at 675lbs. Did tear it off the floor fast to my knees, but because of the narrow stance I couldn't lock it out. Next week I'm scheduled for a triple at 660lbs. I've done 655x3 in training, which is also the heaviest I've ever pulled from the floor at any rep range. Instead of a triple next week should I try 675x2 again with proper stance width just to handle that weight from the floor? Or just pull 660x3 as planned? I'd like to open with 640lbs, second attempt at 670lbs, and 700lbs for a third attempt. I feel confident about getting these numbers if I can go into the meet relatively pain free, I'm just wondering if for the confidence aspect I should handle 675lbs from the floor for a double before the meet.

Opinions?

I would go with a third option. WUT a 675 single with proper stance. Rip that fucker off the floor and lock it out strongly. No need to risk tweaking the knee further with a max effort second rep in my opinion.

Deload the following week and you will hit 700 meet day.

Yeah, if the single is RPE 9 I suppose it amounts to the same as x2 @10. I've seen a peak programmed like that before, too. Thanks.

I would just do the 675 from the floor again. You could do two singles instead of a double. Or just do one single. Honestly at this point it won’t affect your strength skipping 1 rep. You have put in all the work up to now and strength won’t just switch off like that. Take your time set it up properly and do 1 single. If it went up nicely then stop there. That will help get your mind back that you are good to go.

Yeah, I know everything has already been done, it's more for the mental aspect of it. I know the strength is there, it's just uncharted territory on the weight. Nailing 675lbs will make me more confident going into this meet and believing is a big part of the battle with deadlift in my opinion.

I’m more interested in the knee pain itself. I would stray to either a single at 670 or a triple at your opening weight. I know there’s still a deload but 10RPE double that you failed already (Not due to strength but pain so good call on not aggravating it to get s rep) is quite taxing in itself I don’t touch 10RPE for anything the week prior to deload for the sole purpose that your are trying to prepare your body for its RPE 10 day in the future not trying to recover from one in the past.

I don't know what happened, it started at work a few weeks ago. My job involves a lot of heavy physical labor and I never really get much chance to rest it. It does seem to be getting slowly better though. Pretty much just trying to hold things together 19 more days and then take it easy and hope it gets better.

Not that my opinion means much, I'm no great coach like the rest of these guys, just a player, but I do have to agree with the taking it (somewhat) easy on it.

You know you can lift the weight dude, but I have the same thing with little nagging pains with my job and sometimes you just gotta let it get better.

You'll get the lift on meet day, we all believe in you, brah.

I'll try not to disappoint. I am 26/27 at meets, so I like my odds.

Been forgetting to weigh myself for about a week and hopped on the scales this morning and down to 207lbs. Hopefully I'm just dehydrated or something since I'm trying hard to bulk and still down 7lbs in a week. If not and it keeps going down I may be attempting 700lbs at 198lbs.
That be an amazing pull for that weight. I am sure you can pull rabbits out of hats to make that big pull come meet day. Keep your eyes on the prize!
