A cry for help... and my powerlifting log

Nice!
Congrats on the meet.
Really e joyed reading the summary, some solid info there.
I'm planning on my first meet just for fun next year.

Nice numbers on Bench!

I started a new off-season bench pressing program a week ago - six week block. I'm done the first 4 sessions and I really like it so far. One lighter day and one heavier day. It was supposed to be a squat, bench, deadlift program but I tweaked something in the left side of my lower back, just warming up for deadlift with 275 lbs. More on that later. Hoping after the 6 weeks I can get back to the other two lifts too.

I'm going to try to post at least once a week to stay active here. I have a good setup in the garage so I can push through this lock-down.

Completed session 3 on Saturday evening
This is the lighter day so sets under 6 reps are paused and everything is moved as fast as I can.
185 x 10
225 x 8
265 x 6
285 x 5
275 x 5
275 x 5

Completed Session 4 last night
This is the heavier day but I'm still pausing everything and trying to push with speed.
185 x 8
225 x 6
265 x 5
305 x 4
325 x 4
345 x 4
345 x 4
345 x 4
325 x 5 - Made this a speed set after the heavier weight
285 x 6 - Made this a speed set after the heavier weight

I have no idea how I did it but I pulled something two days after my meet. I’m not sure if I might have done it in a middle of a press at the meet and then aggravated it during deadlift warmups 2 days later. But I was only pulling 275 lbs. Very first rep it tightened up. It was tight for three days then felt better but now the bruising is there. It feels fine now but I’m going to keep off the deads for a couple weeks.

Holy fuck

You hitting the docs soon?
A bruise like that from a lift is a serious deal

No. The fucking doctors don’t take anyone right now. Preparing for the worst or they don’t want to be close to anyone.

When I strained my bicep I had bad bruising come to the surface the same way. I’m assuming it’s a strain. Just need to wait it out. The bicep was a lot worse though and took almost an entire year with pain the whole time. I barely notice this thing.

It’s right at belt level and similar width which is why I think it might be something I did at the meet.

Well, keep an eye on it.

Worst case scenario... get a mask on and find a good doctor to see you.
Especially if it doesnt get better soon.

That looks vicious brother

Still staying off the deadlift and squat since I pulled something in my lower back. It's feeling progressively better so I'll give it 6 weeks rest and start back light weight. Frustrating because I was motivated to train full-power.

Bench workout is every 3-days though so doing curls and pullups and OHP in between.

Jesus bro. Too low to be a rib?

Ok back into it full speed ahead. I was doing bench only while the minor lower back strain healed. It’s time to go though.

Running Sheiko Advanced Medium Load and starting with Prep 2. That will lead into Prep 3 and then the Comp cycle. I’m sitting at 264 lbs trying to drop some weight over the next couple weeks before my next blast starting in June. This is leading up to a full power meet at the end of August.

I’m behind schedule already and had to do 4 workouts in 3 days. Not the best way but now I’m on track. It was fine because I didn’t work Friday due to rain. Three days of working out, eating and sleeping. Ideal and wish I could do that all week long, every week!

This was today’s workouts - days 3 and 4.

I'll be on prep cycle 2 week 3 next week. You liking it?
I like Sheiko because it’s predictable. You just get in a groove and hammer after it. The sub-maximal loads make it so that you’re not missing too many lifts. Slow and steady.

That’s also what I hate about Sheiko though - a long slow process. I lose motivation because I look at the low weight numbers week after week and don’t feel that instant gratification that comes with putting up bigger numbers every other week.

It works though. I ran it a year and a half ago and made really good progress. My squat went up significantly from 485 to 525. It was the first time I squatted 500 and a week later I got 500 for a double, two weeks later I hit the 525.
