Meso Powerlifting Corner

Hope everyone has been doing well around here. I haven't been on the board much due to life issues. Its been an ungodly bad year, and it just keeps going. Just wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone, and if someone hasnt covered it yet (because many of us are a fan of sheiko programming) Boris Sheiko's book has finally been translated into english and is available for purchase over at renaissance periodization. As most would expect, it is an interesting read.

Good hearing from you man. I think a lot of us have been less active. I know I am, same reasons as everyone else, life is busy.
Thanks for the heads up on Sheiko. Hopefully after the first of the year I can start bumpin the PL thread with some good PR #'s . I know it's cliche but i really do have a solid plan to ramp my training back up in January, coming off a much needed "break" since october.

Its been a rough year, and just like you, I have a plan to come back with some pr's this next year. Training has taken a back seat the last part of the year. I have lost 8 people this year, both close friends and immediate family, and am now days away from a major surgery to remove a tumor. (not looking for pity by any means) To say the least, 2018 has been a terrible year, and although I have another recovery period ahead, I plan on sticking to my plan and come back stronger than ever in 2019....I have to admit it will probably be closer to the END of 2019 but it will nonetheless happen!!

Our powerlifting section is beginning to look like a ghost town. Hope everyone is doing well. I have a question for everyone. I have bags full of single ply gear. Shirts, squat and deadlift suits, etc. I have long given up on equipped lifting, and am looking to get rid of it. My question is, what would be the best place to try and sell my equipment? Are there any websites, resellers, etc? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I hate it this section is dying off. As far as your gear there's some Facebook groups specifically for buying and selling powerlifting gear as well as a section on powerlifting watch.

Thanks Perrin. I remember seeing that section on plw some years back. I cant believe I didnt think about Facebook. Today's world, that should have been the first place I checked. Thanks brother. Been following your thread. Keep up the damn good work!!

Since we've had a few newer members who are into Powerlifting and more and more members who are making the switch I thought I would put together a thread to help. I'm not the most knowledgeable, so it's mostly going to be links to threads on here about powerlifting, equipment, and some current and old logs. If anyone has anything to add please do, and if there are any questions please ask (I will not answer them, but I'm sure one of our more experienced members will).

First and Foremost: What is Powerlifting?

Powerlifting is an individualized sport in which competitors attempt to lift as much weight as possible for one repetition in the squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Each lifter is placed into a specific division and classified by several variables including weight class, age group, and experience level. Further subdivisions are made between what's known as "geared" and "raw" power lifters, indicating whether the individual is wearing supportive equipment during the competition or not.

Competitions are generally all-day events that begin with the squat, progress to the bench press, and conclude with the deadlift. Every lifter is allowed three attempts at each lift, making for a total of nine competition lifts throughout the day.

Three officials serve as judges and collectively decide whether a lift is considered "good" or "bad." Judges indicate their decisions by a panel of red and white lights (white indicating a "good" lift, red indicating a "bad" lift) displayed after each attempt. Two or three white lights are sufficient for a good lift while one or fewer means a bad lift.

At the end of the day, awards are presented to the lifters with the highest squat, bench press, deadlift, and total within their division. A lifter's "total" is determined by the sum of their best lifts and the individual with the highest total is considered the all-around strongest lifter in their division.

This should be a good start for anyone. I have some more I plan on adding later(as I've said I am NOT the SME at Meso about powerlifting).

It's almost 2016 fellas (and female fellas), never a better time to make a switch. Stop just worrying about looking good and just lift some heavy sh*t!
So I just scrolled through some of these links from your first post on here, there is some good stuff in some of those logs. Looking forward to reading some more history of meso.

Looking at his Instagram stuff looks like he has trouble with grip. I can only imagine how rough 1000+ would be on the hands. Every session I'm doing sets and reps at 600+ I'm bleeding.
Strange. Never had my hands bleed and i train with a Texas bar, the knurling is sharp as hell.

My callouses come off super thick pieces, but never deep enough to bleed.
