Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

USAPL is another story, long pause compared to other feds. I noticed that people with a slower decent typically get a quicker press command over someone who dive bombs it

I don't think I'd do USAPL even if I was natty. I've been to a couple of their meets as a spectator and I don't care for how they do things. Plus no deadlift bar.

Hahahaha. I have always been training with a super fucking stiff Olympic barbell. Is there any real difference between both barbells? XD

A long time ago I posted some comparison pics of around 650lbs on a stiff bar and a deadlift bar. The difference in the amount of bend off the floor is pretty significant. It starts to become noticeable around 500lbs and obviously more so the heavier the weight.

Deadlift bar flex is alot more noticeable the thicker the plates are too, because they end up further out towards the end of the bar causing a greater flex. The calibrated plates of equal weight wont flex the bar as much since they are thinner and will be closer to the bars center.

Yeah, kilo plates take up like half the space.

how long until you do another meet?

I don't know, part of me wants to come back soon and get this elite total. It would probably be spring or summer at the earliest. Really just need to cruise for six months and get healthy and work on weak points right now.

The next one I think I'm just gonna blast prop for like eight weeks and take some var. I don't think I really need much gear wise to get it done.

Yes best idea to take a break for a while to give your body a chance to recharge and regroup as well as healing. Go lighter training for a while just to keep sharp then when the bug strikes you again you'll be ready for it.

I went in the gym this morning to take another crack at 420-430lbs on bench, but doing low bar at the meet destroyed my elbows. Probably the worst they've been this training cycle, so it's a no go. Got warmed up to 365x1 and by this point my hands were shaking just from holding my phone up and called it a day. I'll give it another shot next spring or summer.

That meet sure did take a lot out of you and maybe you do need to do a sort of deload and go lighter for a bit to recover. Also mobility exercises for elbows?

Sorry if I am sounding like a dick, why go low bar at the meet when you know that caused you the elbow issues in the past? Was it a requirement to go low bar squat at the meet?

As far as I know it's a shoulder mobility thing.

As far as a requirement, no, it's not. But I can do more weight low bar and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to put up the most weight regardless of pain. It doesn't matter how much I hurt now that the meet is over anyway because I don't need to lift heavy for awhile. Today was just for fun.

So far I'm thinking the next few months will look like this training wise. I haven't decided on all the rep ranges just yet. Will be going to front squat as my main squat for now, eventually switch to high bar or SSB. Keeping regular bench press in for now, just won't be hitting any peak sets of low reps. Deadlift I'm keeping sumo in for now, but will be pulling singles at a lighter weight, like 500-600lbs, focusing on locking my knees out. Might incorporate bands sometimes, not sure yet. Will be programming conventional block pulls to hit my lower back as I'm feeling like I've been neglecting it and I'm feeling it on lockouts.

Did you ever try the raptor grip? It helps me. Still can’t do low bar every week

Yeah, can't get my hands inside the plates like that. Only way I can is just using fingertips. Actually got a comment at the meet about how crazy my grip was. I know I need to work on mobility, I just need to suck it up and do it.
