Why there almost certainly is No God!!

Reading SPQR: A history of ancient Rome by Mary Beard.

I started becoming interested in ancient Rome because of the book The Triumph of Christianity by Bart D Ehrman.

I never actually understood the difference between the theology of ancient room with the monotheistic one that developed over time. They worshipped gods not in the sense of a religion but more as something everyone acknowledged that there were gods in charge of certain things...weather, love, death, war etc. You would do rituals to please them and that was it. There was no creed or religious script per say.

I just went to Rome last week and it was inspiring seeing the forum, ssistine chapel, Vatican museum, Colosseum and the pantheon temples. Being were the ancient story of Cicero and Catiline took place was intoxicating..

Humanity doesn't need a god to feel the sense of importance. We have history, literature and science.

God is a relic of us apes when we were young. Nothing more.

I'm not under the obligation to disprove any personal god. The burden of proof is on the one who claims it.
Which makes your point even less valid. You can't say something is false without factual evidence.
I believe and have faith that God exists. I can't factually prove it and never claimed to be able to.
I don't believe in Bigfoot but can't claim as a fact that those who believe it's real are wrong.
You're making an assumption and calling it fact. Doesn't work that way.
You want to prove my beliefs wrong then show me proof He doesn't exist. You can't.
There is no burden of proof on me to prove shit. This ain't a fukin court case.

Court? This is simple reasoning. It is simple dynamics for any existance arguement. Hitchens razor or Sagans extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. It's Him claiming you don't have to be a bible thumper to believe in god, this stating a claim in the gods existence. You can't prove there a Chinese teapot orbiting Mars but that doesn't mean there is a good reason to believe one is OR even become neutral saying "oh well I cant prove he's wrong". No it doesnt work THAT way. I have no reason to believe this teapot orbiting Mars other then what he is ASSERTING is true. I'm not making any assumption other then the fact just because someone isn't a bible thumper, it doesnt make gods existence any more or less true.

I just come here to read and laugh but I ran across this and thought it was interesting.

"My god is responsible for everything that happens, even the bad stuff."

"So he's a bad god?"

"No, he's a good god."

"Even though bad stuff happens and he could prevent it?"

"Yes."

"Without any effort whatsoever?"

"Yes."

"So he wants the bad stuff to happen?"

"No. He's a good god."

"But it happens, and he could prevent it, and he doesn't."

"Yes."

"But he's good?"

"Yes, I keep telling you that. Do you have trouble understanding?"

There is ignoring evidence, and then there is setting your face directly against every single shred of evidence and asserting the contrary. The latter is called religious belief.

I agree with you that because someone isn't a Bible thumper(I'm not), doesn't help to prove or disprove He exists.
I'm a Christian and can admit I've questioned his existence at times.
But I believe through faith and my beliefs. I think people get caught up trying to prove or disprove His existence by fact. Which neither side can do.
As the thread states by the op "almost" certainly no God. The op isn't even completely shutting the door on His existence.
Not here to argue. I get your point and respect it. I just expect the same from others. Regardless of whether they share my beliefs.

As a Christian I would disagree with that individuals statement that God is responsible for everything.
I believe God wants us to be good but he doesn't "control" us like a puppet master. Some people choose to commit acts of kindness while others may be asshole rapists or murderers.
God doesnt control that since we were given freewill.
And as far as Religious belief goes when someone can show me actual tangible evidence that a God doesn't exist I'll be the first to say I was wrong. Until then I guess I'll blindly follow.

At the first moment we're engulfed in the end

We will realize that what we call good and bad, right and wrong, holy and unholy, suffering and enjoyment

Are all one and there is nothing, Only everything

This will be the experience of pure and absolute bliss and ecstasy

An everlasting zenith

This is the embodiment of evil

All people are believers when they are on their deathbed or when times get tough.
Amen to that! I saw and knew many non believers in the service. But as soon as they got down range and the lead started flying they became believers damn quick.
Especially true to those who were injured. Begging God to save them.
