Why there almost certainly is No God!!

Do good things, be good at others, have a good mind, that's what we should do right? Is really matter whether we are a believer or not? There is god, there is no god, is it really important? We all have different ways to keep us going, to support ourselves through tough times. Believer or not, we all should show respect to each other. Because we are the ones to live this life, and life aint always easy!

Absolutely and no one is disputing that. The thing is, the religious want to incorporate there beliefs in law, government and public institutions. That's the only reason (mostly) non-believers even have to speak up as much as we do.

There is a problem of how "atheists" are looked at. As if, we are going after peoples religion out of spite, (some may do this, there are some rotten apples) but more then not, "atheists" are simply speaking out against dogmatic mindsets and philosophies. I enjoy the music, art, buildings etc and have no problem with someone having faith. It's a good societal commune when done correctly. It's when this type of thinking extends to other areas like science, logic and reason. Preachers saying gays cant marry? People disputing evolution because it's not in the bible, yet they've never read it and seen all the hilarious historical errors and even worse the embarrassing amount of contradictions between gospels (jesus lineage is one example).

It's this that pushes people like myself to be outspoken and continuelly criticizing religion.

Where do morals and laws and the concept of good and bad originate from then? Are not all laws constructs of man then, if there is no God? Who is the government to tell me murder is wrong if I’m ok for it? Who is ANYBODY to tell me I’m wrong to murder or steal or harm someone? Just asking because it’s all pretty subjective and when you say the religious want to incorporate their beliefs in laws, well... then does that mean that ALL laws came about from the religious?

Yes. That's why cocaine is illegal.

Legend has it, Jesus, Mary and Jo were pounding rails one night. They we're high as fuck, went out and burned down Jerusalem.

i don't know how true this story is though. Some variations of the story replaced the cocaine with Bacardi 151.

Guess it's up to the faithful to decide which, if either story is true.

That's a very common misconseption and a frankly a very strange interpretation of what I said. Morals and laws, are absolutely a construct of man. Even before the sermon on the mount, many societies had laws and a concept of what's right and wrong. Do you really believe that people didnt know right from wrong before the abrahamic god told them it was wrong? Of course people knew it was wrong, purely from compassion, love, survival and human reason. Also, people don't follow the laws because of WHO it's coming from, it's because of the penalties if you don't follow them. Which is the same reason for most people who follow god.. it's not because of who god is, it's because of what happens to you if you dont listen.

I mean do you really need this dad figure in the sky to tell you not to be an evil person? Considering for thousands of years god wanted many heinous, disgusting and evil things done in his name I find it hard this thing knows what good and bad is anymore then we do. Not only that, but the reason laws changed was because of secular people stood up against the pious.

That’s the thing though - who determines what is right or wrong? Animals don’t have a sense of right or wrong, but according to theory, we evolved from them, and so somehow in evolution, a sense of right and wrong evolved as well? All I’m saying is that morals seem to be subjective because your wrong isn’t my wrong and vice versa. So who is a man or men to tell me or anyone what is right or wrong and where did it come from? The main reason I really replied was because you made the comment that religious people try to force their views on people, when in reality, governments do that as well. So is it just certain views of the religious you don’t want thrust upon you but you’re willing to have other laws thrust upon you?

I apologize if I came off harsh, you seem genuine in your question and I'm use to the opposite. It's a very good question.

You're actually asking one of the biggest questions amongst secular people. The truth is, right and wrong is subjective in a philosophical sense. This is an obstacle that's been extremely hard to push pass with the idea of "moral relatively", strongly pushed by the left, which has made me double check my thinking maybe some religion is needed. You have people(liberals) saying that it's okay for people in the middle east to put cloth bags on woman and if they dont, they'll throw battery acid on them. Since morals are relative to culture... yeah this is ridiculous. Sam Harris wrote a book called the morale landscape. He purposes a idea that, a scientific understanding or an objective truth that the worst possible misery for everyone should be the starting point of morality. It's a "navigation problem" as he puts it.

I wouldnt accept any governmental law that had no foundation of reason and evidence for it. If the government passed a law saying to kill every dog that you see, I wouldnt just accept that law. I follow and accept laws I believe that are logical and reasonable. If they are not, I try to change them or frankly I just dont follow them. Hence being on an aas forum lol.

I strongly suggest that book. I truly wish more religious people read books like the god delusion, the end of faith etc.. not to make you lose your faith! But to understand how we think and to show the faults in religion and this dogmatic thinking. By doing this, you get more sensible religious leaders. People like Maajid Nawaz really help us perpetuate a reasonable future.

If God exists he must be a junkie.

Millions of people are begging, literally crying for help and nothing, nada.
He must be busy smocking crack or something.

Jesus!, stop smocking meth for God's sake!

No localized lightning to destroy @master.on for such a blasphemy, so he must have passed out on drugs.

Smoking doesn't have a C in it, you stupid, broken robot.
We're shutting you down for repairs.

Most of the men and women who were relaxing on yoga mats at a Minneapolis meditation center one recent weekend are not Sunday churchgoers, but they belong to the fastest-growing religion in the United States — none at all.

They included a former Lutheran who left the church because the Bible clashed with science, a former Catholic turned off by the concept of hell, a former Baptist uninspired by Sunday services, and a young man raised with no religion.

Together, they represent the biggest force behind the rising number of shuttered churches and empty pews across Minnesota and the United States. Nearly one in four Americans now declare themselves unaffiliated with any organized religion. The share of adults who identify as “none” has more than doubled since the 1990s — to 56 million and climbing. That’s now more than the membership of all mainline Protestants combined.

I won't doubt that religion has decreased across the country.
But I'm not sure those numbers are accurate. For the simple fact that alot of christians have decided to keep quiet. It's not worth the harassment and ridicule we receive from others.
This thread is a perfect example. I guarantee there are members who won't admit anything on this thread for fear of people mocking them. You know I've taken my lumps in this thread.
And for those that left their Church or religion I'd say they didn't have much faith to begin with. A Catholic turned off by the concept of Hell? A Lutheran leaving because the Bible clashes with science? No shit it does. Pretty comical reasons to leave in my opinion.
If they all want to join this none movement that's cool by me. I'll respect their decision. It's just upsetting to me that myself and other Christians don't receive that same respect.

Really ? Harrassment and ridicule by others? Dont tell me you're trying to make the claim of being a victim due to your religious standing and using this place thread as an example is a terrible example considering most of the members that come in here do not agree with myself and a few others. I cant even imagine the amount of naricissim to have to legitimately believe your ridiculed or harassed when your religion is the most followed in the country. Thousands of churches not paying taxes.

I dare you to go around claiming you're an atheist in America. I've been harrassed on dating websites (tinder and match) for putting that I'm an atheist on there. Religious people would rather you be a different religion then them, then to even be an atheist. I've been told by people in the military that they don't want to go downrange with me because I'm godless. Imagine a politician being openly atheist, that is probably the biggest no go you can have if you wanted to be in the political arena. Then you have politicians publicly saying the bible says to follow the law or Rep. John Shimkus saying he doesnt believe global warming is happening because god said only he has the say when the world will end.

Lol Christian's not receiving respect. Hilarious. I've recieved far more respect from Muslims and Catholics then Christian's.

You're hands down the worst offender here. How the fuk do you know if I've been mocked for being a Christian?
You don't.
And a Catholic is a Christian smart guy.

Didnt think I'd have to clarify people who identify as Catholic rather than a ortho Christian but you already knew that and were just trying to insult me.

Also, I never said you were never mocked for being Christian, but to act like there is some mass regularity in harassing and mocking Christians to the point where your afraid to come out in the open about it is hysterical.

Worst offender here.... well if challenging your beliefs offends you, then sure, I'm the worst "offender". I'll proudly take that title.
